Bernie, this looks great. However, Sean and I will only be able to join in for Saturday/Sunday, as flights in on Friday night are too late for dinner. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Please mark Mizu + company as confirmed for Friday night, maybe for Saturday.

In case anyone is interested, I just got a promotional rate of 76 Euros per night at the Dusseldorf Renaissance Hotel. You must pay with a VISA card to get this rate. To book it on marriott.com, use promotional code V12.
The Renaissance is not right in the central city, but Dusseldorf (like most of Europe) has excellent public transportation, so staying a couple of kilometers north of the center won't be a problem. And Marriott Rewards members (like me) can get credit for staying at the Renaissance. That's important! Bruce |
I can't recommend the Renaissance, based solely on location, which is quite far away from the city centre. There is nothing to "enjoy" in the neighborhood. (No shops / no bars / no restaurants).
Public transportation isn't very frequent on weekends and / or nights. What you'd save on the rate, you'll spend for cab rides. If you are into Marriott points, better try the Courtyards in Düsseldorf. Best choice would be the one in the "Hafen". |
Yes, looking at the map, that hotel is much closer to the action. It's 300 meters from the Rheinturm. And -- the best news -- they have an even lower special promotional rate of 68 Euros per night, if you pay with VISA. So I changed my reservation to the Hafen Courtyard. Thanks for the good advice.
Anyone can book this at marriott.com, using promotional code V12. Bruce |
Rats! That 68€ rate is no longer available. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I can get it right this second on marriott.com. Try again! E-mail me if you're having a problem.

OK, I've probably beaten this subject to death, but for those who care, the Marriott Courtyard Dusseldorf Hafen has a AAA rate available for that weekend of 51 Euro per night. The 68 Euro VISA promotional rate includes breakfast for two; the AAA rate does not. I'll be alone, so the AAA rate seems like the better deal. The Courtyard is in quite a nice location, right on the river, quite close to the Rheinturm.

Wow - that's a great deal. If I hadn't already redeemed Hilton points for the weekend I'd stay at the Courtyard. Looking forward to seeing you all. Cheers.

Nikko or nuthin!!!!!
How often does one get to stay in a Japanese Hotel in Germany? Call it the Axis stay!!!! Besides, after a sidecar with Rudi, it is nice to have only a short stumble to the elevator in order to be 'home.' OTOH, if one is in DUS, one is already ahead of the game, IMHO.... |
