A wedding is going to keep me grounded in San Diego. I'm really sorry about this, as I've been on FT thru DUS I and II - and seen all the responses about what incredible times people had. Enjoy!

Bernie, is it too late to join in? I've got that Friday off work and I would like to join you all in Dusseldorf.

I might burn some KLM miles and go EDI-AMS-DUS but the Germanwings is offering me free tickets to try out their new direct EDI-CGN service. Bernie, perhaps you could tell me how difficult it would be to get from CGN to the centre of Dusseldorf. I see DB runs regular services between the centre of Dusseldorf and the centre of Koln, but what about the bus connection between the hauptbahnhof in Koln and CGN? The direct flight could be useful because I need to be back in work in Edinburgh on the Sunday afternoon.

The bus between CGN and main station rund every 12 mins. Trains between Cologne and Düsseldorf main station are also running very frequently. If you'd stay at the Nikko it would be a short walk from the station. Shouldn't take longer than 40-60 mins total.

AJ, I tried this once, but then just thought s*d it and jumped in a taxi that took credit cards and burned up the autobahn german speed stylee.. more fun and much more enjoyable than public transport.

I'm now 100% out. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I will need to be in the Carolinas through that Friday tending to client business.

(On the "bright" side, the cancelled trip to Germany now makes it likely that I will be able to attend the Brewfest in PDX... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif )

Thank you so much, bernie. either way I'll be arriving by 6pm so it would be great to join you all for drinks, fireworks etc.

My thoughts exactly. I suspect that waking up on the Sunday with an appalling hangover and the prospect of a 3-hour journey followed by a 12-hour work shift will see my high-minded commitment to public transport quickly evaporate http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I just booked my ticket. I'll be arriving on LH437-17 at 09:35 (on the 18th) and departing on OS162-20 at 07:30. This will be my first trip on LH's all business class aircraft -- to which I'm looking forward.

I dunno, King James, I think maybe Wingless is still scarred from flying back from Germany with A Freak last year.

Trauma like spending 9 hours on a plane with THAT is tough to get over...
