I was just going to say that with Mr. Kipper out of town, I wasn't going to make it, but perhaps we could coordinate sharing a ride since I have to head down your way to board the dogs if I go.

After my first drive from PA to NYC costing me $50 in tolls and gas , I vowed never again to drive. Amtrak's AAA-discounted fare is $45. It's a win-win-win: less money, a more relaxing trip (or one I can be productive on and work during), and not having to deal with the car once in NY.

Since that time, I have taken the train to NYC exactly 0 times and have instead driven up twice. At least this time, I will be going home with two boxes of wine--well, 1.4 boxes, since .6 of a box was enjoyed with 7 FlyerTalkers last night on a Roosevelt Island roof. (Yes, do the math--that equals one bottle each. )

In any case, I was planning on doing Amtrak for the Soup Do, but I may be persuaded to car-share--the tolls and gas can be split, effectively making it a better deal than Amtrak...

Oh, and I should say: I will enjoy being the envy of Dovster!

This is all true. If this all works out (assuming I stop doing 50+ work weeks), we can discuss details later. If you drive, I could probably be convinced to cover gas and tolls, as I generally dislike driving in NY.

The temporary car I am borrowing leaves much to be desired in terms of passenger comfort, and indeed, we may not even be able to hold a conversation along the way due to the engine and wind noise, but we'll talk more as the date approaches.

If you know how to drive a manual transmission and don't have an aversion to dog fur, I can donate my Jeep to the trip. However, when I mention dog fur, keep in mind that I have a husky/lab mix that sheds twice a year... Each one lasts 6 months! She has black and white fur, so if you wear black, it shows as white fur. If you wear white, it shows as black fur.

know the pain, our malamute is currently shedding big time, brushing her every day it seems. I liked the strong wind today as with each brush stroke the fur just blows away. Have seen her fur in some of the nests that birds build

I think I could gather up her fur each day and in a week have enough to knit a sweater! Although, that would assume I could knit.

I hope so. I'll see about it, and if jackal and I can work out some sort of ride sharing arrangement, then there's a greater chance I'll make it.

I did see some dog hair yarn at a store in Aspen last summer. It was very expensive and I was slightly thrown off by the idea of wearing something made of dog hair.

Anyway...I might be able to make this, but 8pm might be a little late. I'll have to check the train schedules since I usually take the bus and the last one I'm willing to wait in the PA for is at 11:40.

Niftyknitter...we normally wrap up by ten pm...we do not party all nite (many of the guests have to be up early for dhammers Brooklyn reality tour and as some of us know he leaves exactly at 10a and waits for no one...even a certain original FT member. =^..^=

Ill put u on the possibles list and hope u can join us

SPEAKING OF PET HAIR...I could start a fashion line with all the Cat hair that ends up on my clothes. Its helped me win over a number of potential clients who see I actually sit on the floor and play w my feline clients (some sitters dump food and hopefully scoop the litter box)

Now that I'm confirmed for the BRT and will therefore be in NYC for the weekend, I'll go ahead and confirm attendance at the DO!

Will work something out with kipper.

Is that all you guys got?? I was beginning to think this was gonna be an all night party! But you make a very good point about people having to get up early for an all day trip.

Thanks for adding me to the possibles, but I just remembered my cousin is going to be visiting so I probably won't be able to make it out. Awww I was getting so excited about my first FT DO.

I'm not sure I'd want to wear it, but I could probably sell it to those who do.

If only you took care of dogs too, and lived far closer.
