, I vowed never again to drive. Amtrak's AAA-discounted fare is $45. It's a win-win-win: less money, a more relaxing trip (or one I can be productive on and work during), and not having to deal with the car once in NY.
Since that time, I have taken the train to NYC exactly 0 times and have instead driven up twice. At least this time, I will be going home with two boxes of wine--well, 1.4 boxes, since .6 of a box was enjoyed with 7 FlyerTalkers last night on a Roosevelt Island roof.
(Yes, do the math--that equals one bottle each.

In any case, I was planning on doing Amtrak for the Soup Do, but I may be persuaded to car-share--the tolls and gas can be split, effectively making it a better deal than Amtrak...
