The letter will tell you the reason(s) for the decline. Are either of your existing card accounts currently reporting a balance? I am not asking if you are carrying a balance, but if you had a balance to pay on the most recent statement(s). Citi may reject an application if they see no balance on any reported account.

Yes, one of my card carries a balance at the moment, but I always pay it off by the statement date. Why would Citi reject an app if they see no balance on an account? Isn't that a good thing?

Card issuers report the account balance once per month. Usually on the closing date. When you pay that balance is invisible to the credit scoring algorithm, it literally does not matter. However, if you pay all of your cards before the closing date so that ALL accounts report a zero balance, Citi sees that you do not use the credit that is already available to you, and that is not a good thing.

Do you mean the Citi TYP Premier card? Citi Thank You is a points program. There is no single card called (simply) Citi Thank You.

At any rate, are you aware that if you close the previous card, any points earned with it will expire in 60 days, no matter what other TYP cards you have, no matter where you moved those points? So unless you've used up all the points from previous card, instead of cancelling the previous card, downgrade it to the no-AF Preferred, that's the one thing which keeps the points alive at zero ongoing cost. (Just remember to use the Preferred at least once or twice a year, to avoid Citi cancelling it for "inactivity", as they like to do.)

what was your open date? Aug 2016?
25 months = Sep 2018?

I applied exactly 25 months from the day my prestige account was opened. I called and confirmed with Citi that they were showing me eligible.

I haven't been able to find a concrete answer in the forum here - I had a forward open for several years that was converted to a thank you preferred 9 months ago when they closed the forward program. Will that count against me for opening/closing a thank you points earning card in the past 24 months?

DId your 16-digit card account number change between the Forward card and the TYP Preferred card?

If so, it did start a 24-month clock from everything we know, because Citi views that as one card account closed and another opened.

Only conversions where the card account number is totally unchanged (only expiration date and/or security code changes) don't seem to start a new 24-month clock, because Citi doesn't see it as an open/close if the account number never changed.

Thanks - that's what I was worried about...it went from Visa to Mastercard, so yes there was a change in the account number.

Yes ,thanks for clarification. Citi TYP Premier card. Quick data point, I applied for new Citi TYP Premier card and got approved while still holding the other card from 3 years ago. So, I should be eligible for bonus since I have had this card for 3 years without cancellation. Plan to downgrade the other Citi TYP Premier card to no AF preffered to keep my points alive. One question, is points still same value as Citi TYP Premier card. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

If you do what mia said in answer to your question in the other thread, then yes, since the transfers out of TYP will be using your new Citi TYP Premier transfer ratios.

I'm not having luck finding it via search or on websites (found Prestige though), does anyone have a link to the new (Julyish) Premier card benefits guide?

Got approved for this card today for the 60k / $4k welcome bonus.
Looking at the card features, this card seems to be very comparable to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, but gets very few blogs relative to the chase one. Seems CSP is very heavily marketed.
Even the welcome bonus currently is more than what CSP offers, but not advertized a lot, compared to how much I read about CSP in blogs etc etc.
