How does Citi judge the 24 months period that must pass in between sign up bonuses? I applied and was approved for the Citi Prestige sometime in July 2016 (my first charge on the card is July 29, 2016) and got a sign up bonus. I am interested in the Premier sign up bonus on offer now. Is it safe to go for it or do I need to wait longer? I called Citi and they said they cannot give an exact date for when the prestige was opened.

Wondering, my wife was an authorized user on my Citi Thank You Preferred account that was closed 4 months ago. Will that disqualify her from the sign up bonus or does an authorized user not count towards the 24 moth rule? Hoping to get her signed up for the 60k offer, but don't want to get approved if she won't get the bonus points.

Citi is notorious for counting time incorrectly, so I would say you'd want to wait 25+ full calendar months or even a bit more to be on the safer side.

Meanwhile, free Credit Karma should be able to give you the exact open date for free (from either TU or EQ) if you're interested. (Don't use the free Experian site for this, because they have a bug which displays every card as having been opened on the first of the month.)

Does anyone know... If I am an authorized user on my wife's Premier card (added over a decade ago), would I be eligible to earn this bonus with a new signup?

Yes, for two reasons..the most important is that being an AU does not count for your own card apps. But even if it did, 10 years is way more than the 2 years you would need to get the bonus again.

My last TYP card was closed on 9/9/16. Do I have to give a month buffer and apply in October 2018 or can I apply on 9/10/18 for a new one?

Citi is notorious for counting time inaccurately, so it is definitely much safer to give at least a month buffer if possible.

Thanks - exactly what I was looking for...credit karma showed I had Prestige opened on Aug 2, 2016.
So I should wait till at least Sep 2, 2018, that would give me 25 months, correct?

Yes, "at least", but there is no magic date. Your chances of not having a problem go up the more you wait. They're even a bit better at 25 + 1 week or 25.5 or 26 months than at 25 months, maybe even a slight bit better at 27 months than 26.

We don't know what causes Citi to miscount time, so we don't know how far off they might miscount.

At a minimum, you want to be far enough out that if you have to argue your case to Citi, you can say "that was not just 24 months ago, it was ...", and you don't want them to reply "but they we count...". (I had a case with an AA business card where they either counted my close 26+ months earlier of the previous AA business card, or they counted my more-recent close of an AA personal card against an AA business card application. Neither should have happened, it delayed them agreeing that I was due a bonus by a month or more - after several rounds of phone calls which got me nowhere and then several rounds of SMs -- but they never explained what they had come to the wrong conclusion so I can't know.)

Tried to review the whole thread carefully but couldn't spot an answer in the wiki or anywhere else in the thread so I'll ask this basic question:

After your product change down from an old Premiere (opened well over 24+ months ago) to a Preferred (with the same account number), how long do you have wait before applying for a new Premiere card? Is one week safe? Does it need to be 30+ days? Or more...

I haven't been able to find guidance on this anywhere and I'd like to get in on the 60k offer before it presumably disappears soon.

Thanks!

As I understand it, if the card number stays the same, it's not consider a new card. The reason I say that (though you didn't ask) is that if there is a screw up and it gets counted as a new card, you'll be ineligible for the bonus for another 24 months. To answer your question, I don't think product changes have anything to do with timing, that's all for apps with new cards. To be safe, I'd get the new Premier card first, then wait a bit and convert the old one. You can have multiples of the same card and you should get the bonus if your last app was over 24 months ago.

Not I. Did you try it? Any data points?

I read through this thread, but question to anyone familiar. Obviously Citi AA cards are not challenging to get approved for. This is a mid-tier card compared to the Prestige as well. Question is, does this card seem to be approved just as easily as most Citi credit cards? IE - if you have a good credit profile, they do not seem to care much about hard pulls or lots of new accounts?

I think the answer is no, but I'm going to ask anyway...are there referral offers for this card? There's none in the referrals thread and I can't find one using search online.

I haven't seen an answer to this inquiry. Has anyone tried to do this? I got the Citi Prestige card a year ago. My son got a mailer for the Premier card with no 24 month language (same first and last name and address, but different middle name) and I was thinking about trying it if anyone had successfully used one of these mailers from a family member on a non-AA Citi card. Like OP, I don't want to restart my 24 month clock if I'm not going to get the bonus points.

My wife just applied for the Premier 60K. She only has 1 other Citi card-- opened the Prestige in March 2015, downgraded it to Preferred in April 2016 (with a new number), and basically hasn't done anything to it. I suspect no reason she can't get the bonus on the Premier. Is this correct?
