The app is the same, and I believe it will completely replace the paper forms, but if you chance upon a paper form, there are separate arrival and departure sections.

The app is for a health declaration. Nothing to do with the immigration forms which still need to be filled in by foreigners.

I wasn't aware of that. My assumption was that they were trying to go 100% electronic (e.g. fingerprints, photo booths connected to their system, everything is connected to your master file) for all of this stuff just like the visa place in Pudong has done.

This is correct. The same mini-app is used to do the health declarations for entry and exit. The paper immigration form is required on entry. It's been redesigned and there is no longer an exit form.

I can confirm that there is no longer an exit form, having exited a couple of weeks ago.

BTW, any relation between Moondog and Largedog?

This is good as I always had concerns about losing that form.

I remember once I exited to Hong Kong after having entered at West Kowloon. There were no exit forms since they had all been detached from the entry form. At Futian checkpoint, there weren't any forms at all upon exiting, at least none visible. Luckily I had an extra with me.

I once asked the supervisor friend that work in Customs: don't you guys get all that information when you scan our passports (including job and reason for visit, THEY KNOW), and he smiled and said yes. So I say WHY THE F would you still torment me in filling out those forms (I have 6 children, we go in and out of China frequently), and he smiled and said "I don't know, we throw away those forms as soon as we collect them, but someone upstairs still insists on them"

I was recommended (without asking) to put down as unemployed so they can finish up the form and go on their merry way home.

AFAIK the only remaining item left is the health form for entry/exit right?

Would be good to add that link as a wikipost. And if/when that gets removed (I don't remember the status), we can close this thread, right?

Most of us use the app or the miniprogram. If any checkpoints are still accepting the form, that's news to me, but if so, they would certainly have them on hand because it's such a rare bird these days.

Form doesn't imply paper ... I've been filling out the digital form, then taking a screenshot of it. Always works.

What doesn't generally work -- natch -- is the crowd control when one wants to scan said form.

In Australia at least the forms may be used as evidence against you (possibly years) down the track.

If you look up the immigration cases on austlii.edu.au you'll find lots of cases where information from immigration cards were used as supporting evidence to show that a visa (or citizenship) applicant was dishonest in subsequent applications.

On my last entry both sides of the form were placed on a scanner, so I'm pretty sure they keep a digital record.
