I am going only as a spectator. I may do a lot of stupid things in my life but testifying before congress without an attorney present would not be one of them.

ABC News is continuing to pursue this story pretty strongly. There should be another article out prior to this afternoon's hearings and potentially a follow-up after as well.

The reporter interviewed me for this one.

"The events from last week serve as a reminder of how critical it is to have accountability at the Department of Homeland Security," said Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chair of the committee.

Hahaha Bennie. We've been demanding accountability at that disgusting, un-American agency for years. What are you, new?

Washington Times: TSA "stonewalling" congress on new version of SOP

"But the agency is stonewalling and allowed only select committee staffers to review the new manual and its half-dozen revisions for one hour on Monday.

"Mr. Dent questions whether the revisions are as substantial as the TSA claims, why mitigation efforts are being put in place if there are no new risks exposed by the leak, and why Congress can't have a copy."

Tomorrow's hearing looks rather interesting as well:

Subcommittee on Management, Investigations, and Oversight Hearing

“Furthering the Mission or Having Fun: Lax Travel Policies Costs DHS Millions”

Witnesses:
Elaine Duke, Undersecretary for Management, Department of Homeland Security
Carl Mann, Assistant Inspector General for Inspections, Office of Inspector General, Department of Homeland Security

The purpose of the hearing is to examine the DHS Office of Inspector’s General audit of the amount of taxpayer dollars the Department spent on conferences, retreats, and other offsite activities, in addition to the lack of internal controls governing policies, oversight, and reporting of conference planning and spending practices

I spoke with her as well.

Hearings should be starting any minute now (only 11 minutes late so far). Apparently there is a vote going on or something.

I've read the prepared testimony thus far and it is nothing surprising. I've also been told to expect a mild reprimand for not reporting this to the Inspector General. I've told them that I'd absolutely do it again this way if it happened again.

Oops...got sidetracked...hearings just started.

sbm12 Dec 16, 2009 12:33 pm

Even the Homeland Security Committee has not been able to receive a copy of the most recent SOP. The TSA won't give it to them.

That's ridiculous.

And I was just called out. Awesome. Apparently I should feel shamed for not using the whistle blower process.

"I regret this occurred and take full responsibility for the mistake. Our response was swift, decisive and comprehensive. Passengers will fly safely…because of the layers of security in place."

More from Gale:

I would hope out of their patriotic sense of duty to their fellow countrymen [folks hosting it online] would take [the SOP] down.
That vomit smiley is going to get quite a workout this afternoon. :td:

But most of the TSAers that post in this forum and all the damage control in the media have said that it's outdated and useless.

So, now I'm confused about this. If it's so useless, then why the request?

Congressman from Missouri just asked if she'd actually say she thought security was compromised in public if she believed that. Basically said that she would never say no so any answer she offers is a joke. That was fun.

Holy Big Brother batman!

Is anyone looking to see who has downloaded it? “I believe that the IG is looking at it” They have looked and do have a list of who downloaded it.

Is every single member of this Committee going to ask whether the safety of of the traveling public is in danger?

Also, what on earth was Congressman Cleaver saying?

terockwo Dec 16, 2009 1:19 pm

@ 3:15pm when asked on her time availibility- "Ah, I've gotta be outta here by like 4:15pm" (No specific reason given...)
