In 2017, at the first renewal of the 2016 Chase Sapphire Reserve card,* no retention offers have been forthcoming. It appears that Chase is not offering retention bonuses on this card at this time, and will cancel the card at the cardholders request without further ado.

*A retention offer has been reported (though it's minimal): https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28917524-post376.html

Posts 333 and 327 discuss a fee credit issued by Chase when cancelling the card. These have been called both "Annual Fee Refund" and "Membership Fee Credit."

This thread discusses the timing of both cancelling and product changing (downgrading to Sapphire Preferred) in order to 1) Keep from paying the $450 annual fee, and 2) possibly get a 2018 $300 travel credit before cancelling.

The rules changed for the travel credit on cards issued in May 2017, making the travel credit a calendar year issuance rather than a Dec statement to Dec Statement issuance.

The nuances discussed within this thread include changing your billing date, fees posting on the 1st of the month, and the 30 day window to cancel/60 day window to product change.

But you can't transfer UR points to airlines with it can you?

You have to have Sapphire Preferred or Reserve in order to do that.

Or Ink Preferred?

Correct. Sapphire (no annual fee version), Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, and Ink Cash all earn UR points. To have the ability to transfer to airline/hotel programs, you need to move those points to CSP, CSR, Ink Preferred, or Ink Plus.

Correct, you need a fee card to be able to transfer points to a Airline or Hotel program. Non fee cards were never intended for this. Non fee cards are only good for boosting points or cashing out for a statement credit.

Not necessarily. Transfers can be made through an intermediary (spouse) who has one of those cards.

CPC. No retention offer, about $40K of spend. CSR told me that the retention department is closed today, but he didn't see any offers on the account.

After being as generous as they were with the launch and product offerings, does anyone really expect Chase to offer any sort of retention bonus for the CSR? I certainly do nt.

I only called because of the Doctor of Credit rumor that some retention offers were going to be offered: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rumor...on-offers-cpc/

True, but I was still surprised to see that the guy a few posts above who put $72K on the card wasn't offered anything.

I'm not. Having earned at the very least 172,000 points worth at least $2600 and assuming he used both travel credits ($600) and global entry ($100) he has already received over $3,000 in value all for one $450 fee.

If he's still sitting on those points, that's even more reason not to offer a retention offer as Chase probably knows he will keep it anyway.

What do you mean by "not necessarily?" You 100% necessarily need to move your points to one of the cards I listed in order to be able to transfer them to travel partners. Yes, you can do that via a household member who has one of those cards, but you MUST move the points.

The annual fee just posted for me a couple days ago. I called in and talked to retention for awhile and they told there were no offers yet, but to call back towards the end of my next billing cycle right before I have to either cancel or commit to the annual fee. I had 140k spend over the course of the last year. They did give me a $95 statement credit on my chase ink card, and recommended calling back at a later date.

chase sapphire reserve renewal and retention

About $10K in spending. No offer. Kept Prestige for 4th nite free. Didn't need to pay annual fee for CSR. Cancelled.

140k spend and no offer on CSR? WOW..Looks like there won't be any offers in foreseeable future.

My CSR comes up for annual renewal this month. I probably average 2-3K spending on the card per month.

I called to try to get a loyalty bonus, threatening to cancel my card. The rep. offered me numerous downgrades but said there was no loyalty promotion on this card at this time.

I have several other Chase cards.

I also spoke with a "supervisor" who took the same hard line.

I got the feeling this is firm policy. If anybody has better luck than I did please let us know.
