Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.
What counts as Travel?
Gas Station and Grocery Store purchases will also count through 12/31/21. (See post 1521.)
The following items have been reimbursed.
Airline purchases, fees & gift cards:

Question, my statement closed on 12/26 and I successfully used my travel credit for 2016. It already shows what looks like a fresh 300 travel credit availible for me to use. So if i book a hotel on expedia, or hotels.com on Dec 31 will this count towards the new years credit or do i need to wait a day? I am concerned the hotel I want will sell out or I would just wait another day?

Reading through the posts here it seems that the travel credit resets after the December statement. This happened to me recently. My statement closed on the 24th and got credit for a flight I purchased on the 27th.
Is there a way to selectively choose which items I want to pay cash for or which ones I want reimbursed? Feel weird that I've already used up my travel credits for 2017 when we are still in 2016.

No. It doesn't matter which expense(s) happen to trigger the reimbursement, it serves to reduce the card annual fee. I have received $600 in reimbursement and have not yet been billed the annual fee. I do not remember, or care, which expenses trigger the reimbursement because I allocate the value against the forthcoming $450 expense.

I have a few DP from a recent trip to Kona, Hawaii out of DFW (thx to the wife's CSR), with airport locations noted where appropriate:
Travel credit triggered in full with Hilton timeshare payment.
- Park N Fly parking (DFW) = Travel
- Hudson News (LAX) = Not Travel
- Gift Shop (KOA) = Not Travel
- Original Hawaiian Chocolate factory = Not Travel (or dining)
Travel credit triggered in full with Hilton timeshare payment.

Both have applied as travel for me, at least where Hilton Grand Vacations is concerned. Can't speak to other programs. I've used CSR against timeshare finance payments and HOA fees with both coded as travel. I already had my travel credit paid previously though.

Bought a ticket on DY through Expedia Denmark to take advantage of the exchange rate that ended up saving me $20 USD versus DY website. It was charged in DKK and it coded as travel because it triggered the $300 USD return. Also, the merchant was Expedia, not Norwegian on my statement.

Frustrating situation here. Applied and approved for the card on Dec 2, 2016. Immediately saw on account details that the first payment date would be Jan 26, 2017 - meaning the statement close date should be Dec 29, 2016. Went ahead and spent and received the $300 travel credit in mid-Dec.
Just yesterday noticed that the first statement was actually generated on Jan 1, 2017. Called into Chase and was told that no statements are generated after the 28th of each month due to only 28 days in February. Thus, we missed the cut-off by one day and the $300 travel credit already received would apply to 2017 instead.
Argued for a bit on the phone, but 3 different agents wouldn't budge. You win some, you lose some. But still frustrating that we had no idea 28th is the last statement date for every month and we missed it by one day.
At least I should still get the $300 for 2018 I suppose
