Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

I was caught a little off guard when noticing that I got new travel credits in this months online account activity (already had my $300 for the year several months ago). This forum and wiki helped explain, thanks (my next statement is in Jan).

However I'd thought I'd share what triggered the latest credits, I found it somewhat interesting what they counted as travel. We just got back from New Zealand and they gave me credit for HOBBITON MOVIE TOURS (great tour of the LoTR Hobbit village) and WAIOTAPU THERMAL WONDERLA (very neat thermal nature park). Also got the 3x credit for them. Fun data points!

I have enough points that I couldn't justify buying airline or hotel gift cards. So instead I just prepaid the $180 or so I had remaining for 2016 into my toll account. That'll get me through pretty much all of next year, so it seemed like the best option for me. Just an FYI if anybody else is struggling what to spend theirs on in the next few days.

We have mixed reports on tolls coding as Travel, many code as Government Services or similar. Which toll system did you pay, and have you previously made such a payment to verify that it coded correctly?

And if I decide not the keep the card beyond a year (although I doubt that will happen - we eat out a LOT), I should be able to pick up the second travel credit on the back end, right?

So do I have this right?

Thanks to all you experts out there, who provide so much info to newnies like me.

I'm by no means an expert, but I had the exact same situation as yours this past week. My first billing date was Feb 4. I called Chase and asked to have it moved back to Dec so I could get the 2016 credit. The lady told me there was no way she or anyone there could do it. I then asked if she could do anything for me, as I was under the impression I could receive the credit.

5 minutes later on hold, she comes back on and tells me somehow she was able to move the first closing date to Dec 28. Her exact words were "I think I somehow found a glitch in the system, but I'm glad I could do it for you!"

So 2 travel credits, 1 this week and another in January. Call and see what happens.

It's always worth a couple of tries to see if one rep can find the "glitch" that another one couldn't find.
HUCA: Hang up, call again.

The same happened to my wife last week when she received her card. She was told at first that it wasn't possible because "for a closing date change you could only go forward from her billing cycle which was Jan 1st". The rep said the change to the 28th would not apply to this month's bill but only going forward to future bills.

After HUCA, the next rep took care of it and moved the December closing date to the 28th no sweat. Called again a few days later to verify and it was indeed done properly.

This is my current predicament for my partner and I.

We received our cards on 12/14 and want to reap the 2016 award too.

What are some of the arguments/persuasion techniques being used on the phone to convince the rep to move the bill to December instead?

Yep, I've already tapped out my 2017 travel credit (as of today) thanks to a prepaid hotel stay.

Any particular phone number to call to request that the closing date be moved to Dec on a new CSR, or just the standard number?
I missed this nuance and just applied day's ago. Card is in the mail now and I was counting on getting the 2016 and 2017 bonus..

Thanks for the great info in the posts; just didn't catch this point.

I assume it is post date that matters, not charge date, correct? My statement closes on the 22nd and I've already used up my 2016 credit. Thinking of doing a 7 day UA fare lock so that the purchase will fall after my statement date to get the 2017 credit
