Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

Another nice thing is the $300 spent on groceries and gas earns points too. The $300 travel credit exempts that $300 in spending from earning points

But I thought it had been reported that if one gets $300 credit for groceries and gas spend, the first $300 spent on travel does not earn points. In other words, the only way to come out $300 ahead is to avoid spending anything on travel all year. Did I get that wrong?

You are correct. The first $300 in travel spending does not earn any UR points. Whether it triggers any part of the travel credit or not is not a factor.

be careful about changing statement dates

Personally I would just resort to 3rd party gift cards sold at grocery stores if needed to, instead of trying to fiddle the date then might end up backfired, as we do not know if it would affect the clock on the UR site, given the not so competent IT at Chase.
This did backfire on me. I changed the date from the 28th to the 2nd because I wanted to get in on the grocery 300 credit before the end of June. But now they changed my dashboard to statement ending in July instead of June. Thanks, chase!

I've had this happen with AMEX too. IME when you change your closing/statement date they always do it by lengthening the current or next billing cycle, never by shortening the current one.

My billing cycles on all my chase cards end early in the month. This month my CSR ended on the third and my Chase freedom unlimied ended on the fourth.

I would love my april billing cycle to end around the 20th so I can have the most points available to maximize PYB and be able to make the charges and have them post before 4/30 so I can use the points.

So if I'm reading these posts correctly if I change the billing date from the 3rd to the 20th before the end of March my April statement will closed on april 20th not May 20 correct?

My wife and I recently changed some Chase due dates. The change took place within the current billing cycle for both Sapphire cards with hers lengthened and mine shortened. A similar change affected the end of the current billing cycle for neither of our Freedom cards. Go figure.

Don't blame Chase. Your strategy was doomed from the start. The credit resets with the first statement after your cardmember anniversary. Changing your statement date to the 2nd would have only helped if your cardmember anniversary is June 1 and June 1 only. You had no margin for error.

There should be no harm in doing this again once you find out your anniversary date. Change your statement date to anniversary date + 1 and you should see the credit reset date revert to June.

Do you have a link to this in writing?

I thought once the $300 travel credit is consumed ( whether on food, gas or travel), travel purchases earn UR.

It's clearly stated in the card's Offer Details.
Annually, the first $300 in travel purchases will not earn rewards points, regardless of whether the Annual Credit was earned on purchases for Travel, or for promotional offers on other categories, for example at Gas Stations, or Grocery Stores.

when the credit reset? how to check the status?

I upgrade my freedom to CSR in July but the 550AF was posted a couple days ago. I have used my $300 credit. The question is: when will the credit reset? This month, next July or next Oct? How to check the status of the credit now? it seems the UR reward benefit not showing it anymore,

It should reset after your July statement date. It still shows the date for me on the UR Dashboard page.

I understand that the first $300 in travel doesn't earn the 3x points - however, what if that occurs with Lyft, which is currently earning 10x points? Would that earn 7x points?
