Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.
What counts as Travel?
Gas Station and Grocery Store purchases will also count through 12/31/21. (See post 1521.)
The following items have been reimbursed.
Airline purchases, fees & gift cards:

Forgive me if I'm being a little obtuse because I'm seeing some unexpected reimbursements here.
DW applied and received card in Feb 2017. Received $300 in travel credits the first statement. Thought we were done.
Online Chase Statement shows 11/4 - 12/3 as the latest, payment date 12/28 but I noticed that a charge on 12/3 received a $15 travel credit. When I look up the UR portal this is what I see:
$15
You're receiving statement credits towards this year's $300 Annual Travel Credit. Your next year's $300 Annual Travel Credit will begin after your statement closing date in 12/18.*
Does this mean that I have $285 remaining for 2017 (prior to 12/18 charges), or $285 remaining for charges for 2018 (anytime from now onwards)?
What's throwing me for a loop is that 2017 is supposed to be finished (or is it?) but if so why are charges before 12/18 being reimbursed?

How many manual adjustments Chase could do to please the customers? Precisely Chase (and AMEX) does not want to get into the manual adjustment mode, hence they tell you it all depends on how the merchant code is.

What date is your December statement?
Any travel charge before that date is against 2017. Any travel charge after that date, is against 2018. It really is very simple. Why so many are so confused?

Well, it is clearly stated in the Terms with no ambiguous languages, how would you expect it being helpful, as in, "we will give consideration as to what the charge is for? "

I had this happened with a local ethnic grocer - it used to be billed as a grocery store and in its own name, on AMEX. Then it changed to First Data as its name and billing - discovered that when it did not trigger Small Business Saturday credit a couple years ago. mia mentioned a restaurant in Miami area also had such change during the same period. The merchants may change their codes on an economic reason if billing under their processors' names or under another code would save their merchant fees.
Therefore whatever worked in the past and not working now. really has no bearing on whether Chase does a research or not - because all it would find out is, the merchant code was xxxx in the past and it is yyyy now, and yyyy is not in the eligible category - so what does it would help for looking in the past? None.
Remember, things are NOT static. Merchants have many reasons to choose a merchant code, and they DONT consider anything else other than which code would work for them and cost them the least, even though the new merchant code may not correctly reflect the nature of their business. They dont consider You and I, the customers, would earn differently from different merchant code!
You can certainly ask for a manual adjustment - I have seen some successful cases on Airbnb for example because Airbnb and also VRBO are coded as Real Estate, not as hotels, so no 3x. In some cases some very helpful reps were willing to go above and beyond and do a one-time courtesy adjustment. Some reps just flat out refuse. I suspect that the reps are being rated in many areas - the courtesy adjustments could be in an area that is rather sensitive, so that may help to explain why the results have been very mixed.
It really is something falling into the cliche C'est La Vie.

There was related recent discussion from around post 1056 onward, including mention of some presumably third pay lookup tool in 1058 (but I don't have use for one so didn't personally dig around to follow up on that)

I can say this because I'm going to ask a similar question, and hope someone will help me out. I just got my JPM Reserve card in the mail yesterday, and I am wondering if I have $300 in travel credit to spend for 2017, before it gets reset for 2018? I don't want to lose out on $300 just because I'm assuming the $300 reset is annual from start date, rather than calendar.

Much of this discussion doesn't apply because Chase altered the rules for accounts opened after May 21, 2017. You are eligible for one $300 reimbursement per membership year, while older accounts are eligible for one per calendar year.

My [2nd] annual fee posted on my November 10 statement and Chase just posted my December 10 statement. I did not use any of my travel credit between those dates.
Does that mean that I missed out on using the travel credit this year?

Your 2017 travel credit was available to you from December 11, 2016 through December 10, 2017.
Your 2018 travel credit is available to you now (began December 11).

Just a heads up - the EZ-Tag (Houston, TX) is currently listed as NOT counting towards travel. They must have changed something in their MCC, as my toll charges (at least the online auto-reload) is now coding as travel for the 3x and travel credit.
