Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.
What counts as Travel?
Gas Station and Grocery Store purchases will also count through 12/31/21. (See post 1521.)
The following items have been reimbursed.
Airline purchases, fees & gift cards:

You didn't say when you first received the card but based upon your statement that you "need to close the card soon" I suspect it was prior to May 2017. If so, your travel credit resets upon the close of your December statement. So you could use $300 now and then $300 after your December statement posts.

Hello.
I read through the wiki at the top of this thread but I still can figure out why I didn't qualify for the $300 travel credit for calendar year 2016.
I had $300 airline spend on December 11, 2016 but it counted towards my 2017 travel credit.
What is your guess for the reason why it didn't count towards my 2016 travel credit?
Thanks

My statement closed on Dec. 4, 2016 but I didn't receive the card until December 7, 2016.
Is the statement closing date based upon when the card was issued? I wouldn't think it that it would have been issued nearly a month before I received it.
So, will I be able to get a second $300 travel credit before my annual fee is due? If I do a travel spend between December 4 and December 31?

If the first statement that I received for my Chase Sapphire Reserve had a closing date of Dec. 4, 2016 does that mean my annual fee will be due on Dec. 4, 2017 or Jan. 4, 2018?
What travel spend could I do that is refundable--just in case I can't time this spend vs. annual fee properly?

That's the best news I've heard in awhile.

Now. I hope it won’t post nov 1st... then you maybe out of luck. Check your statement from last year. When did the first annual fee post. And what date did you apply for the card?

The annual fee posts on the 1st of the month. So I think yours will post December 1st. So it’ll be due on your Jan statement.

So I suspect that fee will post of January 1st assuming his card was open in Dec, but it can definitely post on Dec 1st if it was open late Nov

I think they post on 1st of the month following your anniversary date. They can't charge you fees in advance of your year finishing. So I suspect that fee will post of January 1st assuming his card was open in Dec, but it can definitely post on Dec 1st if it was open late Nov

Right. Chase posts AFs on the 1st of the month after you're approved for the card. I got the CSR late August 2016, 1st AF was posted 9/1/16, 2nd AF was 9/1/17.

It seems to me there's no rhyme or reason to the closing date on statements for newly issued credit cards. Sometimes I get a credit card and the opening and closing date for the first charge is only a 10 day period. The following statements going forward will be the full month. Basically, you need to look on your statements for the closing dates for each month. Mine on the CSR card is the 4th approx. and for my husband's CSR card is the 27th of the month. I made a note to do a $300 travel purchase (maybe a Marriott gift card) after the 5th of Dec on my card and after the 28th of Dec for his credit card.
I then will cancel our cards in early March before the new fee is due. This will be amazing to get $600 each worth of travel out of this credit card for a 1 year period in addition to the 100k miles/points - not to mention Global entry for me and TSA precheck for my husband. We are way ahead of the game. We are thankful. Our 2 kids live 9 hours south of us (easy SWA flight of just 1 hr and 15 min) so we use a certain amount on SWA points and then Marriott points to stay by their house in Coronado (they don't have room for us).

KOA campgrounds - when making a reservation for a camp site on the KOA website, the deposit amount is counted as travel. When arriving at the campground to pay the remainder of the balance, that was not counted as travel.

I have an email from Chase that says my December 2016 account closed on Dec. 4, 2016. I didn't receive a statement for that closing date nor had I even received the card by that date.
I think something may be wrong with Chase's dates for this account.
My first travel spend was on Dec. 11, 2016.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get another $300 travel credit before my annual fee is due.
