Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

Has anyone had any experience with booking a tour through http://www.toursbylocals.com and getting reimbursed for it?

I added a family member to my CLEAR account a few days ago and the transaction finally went from pending to posted -- it did /not/ count for the travel credit, so I suspect the annual membership would not either.

never realized the credit was based on statement closing in Dec....I always thought it literally was based on calendar year. Whoops. Never came across it before, I guess, didn't have travel charges in the last part of Dec. last year.

Not a big deal. I was going to use it soon after Jan. anyway. However, I had to make a last minute flight change for the family this week, as my daughter was sick. Was surprised to see the credit listed...my statement close is the 22nd. Change made on Dec. 21, but posted on 24th, with the adjustment posting on same day of course. This used up $225 in credit.

My only potential concern: I just filed a trip interruption claim for these charges, as this change was required because my daughter (traveling with me) was sick on original travel date (102 fever). I'm assuming (hoping) the travel credit shouldn't have any impact on that - anyone know if this will cause an issue?

Yup. Mine closed the 19th and as of today, I've made $300+ in travel spend and received the statement credit. ^

Here's a new one I just discovered:

Uber Eats is coded as travel and counts towards the travel credit.

Our statement closed mid-December, and then Chase went back and started applying our $300 credit to travel charges post in the first few days of the month! We're not upset, just surprised and curious if anyone else experienced this.

Me - see my post about 3 posts up.

After reading the wiki, seems Chase went from calendar year to 'membership year' beginning in May. I'm actually surprised never to have received specific notification from Chase about this change that I am aware of - I was unaware of it until I came to this thread a day or two ago. I didn't read upthread, so don't know if there was discussion around it there - I imagine so - but I suspect this was to avoid loses by paying two years of credits in the first year of membership, particularly to those who are churning and and taking advantage of the sign up bonus, and actually receiving more then the annual fee back, at Chase's loss. In my case, for example, I got the card in Oct. 2016, used the calendar year credit in 2016, then used the 2017 credit by Jan, essentially receiving $600 in travel credit in the first year, while still only having paid $450 in annual fees. I'm keeping the card because its well worth the benefits, so they'll make it back on me, but imagine someone doing this for the sign up bonus, and claiming two years of credit while paying just 1 annual fee. By doing this by membership year, this problem is erased - you can only get $300 credit for the AF, and your second credit wouldn't be available until you pay the AF again.

Not exactly. Chase moved the travel credit from calendar year to membership year for people who obtained the CSR beginning in May 2017. People who obtained the CSR prior to that are still on calendar year and the calendar year resets when your December statement posts each year.

Correct. Which also means that if your December statement reset say the 17th like mine did, it would also seem to preclude that one is able to get the 2018 $300 travel credit even before the new year starts and the annual fee hits, or is how it seems at least.

If you opened the CSR before 5/2017, then you have the $300 available to use after your 12/2017 statement closed.
My wife and I both had our $300 reset last week and we have already used 1 of them.

How so?
Those who opened the card before May 2017, start their 2018 "Calendar Year" the day after their Dec statements. Any travel charges posted in December but AFTER the Dec statement date are counted against the 2018 credit which is posted the same time as the charge posted, just like how it has always been.
Here is yet one more DP - We got off a cruise on Dec 30, the shipboard account charge was already reflected in the account activity today, together with the $300 credit on a card the statement date was Dec 24.

If your card was opened May or later in 2017, then when your statement closed in December, has absolutely NO BEARING on when your travel credit would reset - because, as explained in the text you quoted, those cards have Cardmember Anniversary Year as the metric on when the travel credit is reset.

I am really surprised that after so many discussions here and elsewhere regarding the mechanism of the travel credit application, there are still so much confusion on WHICH mechanism applied to one's own card, as well as HOW the mechanism works, even with the Wiki.

On a somewhat related note - Cruise counts as Travel on Ink Preferred card just like the CSR does so it also earns 3x on the Ink Preferred despite Chase marketing material named some specific charges as being eligible Travel charges on the Ink Preferred. However essentially Ink Preferred uses the same Travel definition as the CSR.

Another DP for Silvercar over the holidays. Almost done with the 2018 credit already (opened before 5/2017).

I opened my card on 1/12/17, so my travel credit is tied to my membership year. I used my travel credit in 2017, but during December 2017, my travel credit was reset and I got another $300. Question: is the $300 travel credit I got in December 2017 my 2018 credit, or will I get another $300 credit during 2018?
