Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.
What counts as Travel?
Gas Station and Grocery Store purchases will also count through 12/31/21. (See post 1521.)
The following items have been reimbursed.
Airline purchases, fees & gift cards:

Correct. The issue isn't that the credit doesn't post, but that they really want to use that 2016 credit before it's gone.

At the same time does that mean that if ive used my 2016 credit already, I can apply my 2017 credit to a hotel stay im doing mid -December, since it will post in January 2017?

This is part of the reply I got inquiring about my statement closing date:
"Let me share that your statement closing date falls on the 21st every month and your due date is on 18th of the following month. Your first statement will generate on December 21, 2016. "
As long as my travel charge posts before 12/21, I should get the travel credit for 2016, correct?

You need to check in the UR site. My december statement posted yesterday and the gauge for the credit now shows $0 instead of $300.

As long as your December statement is prior to the charges, because the day of the statement is the day the credit switches to 2017. If your hotel stay/post date of the charges is prior to the December statement close day, it would be un-reimbursed 2016 travel expenses.

Just had to phone in to giftcards.aa.com after attempting to purch a $100 AA e-gift card via their website. Reason: something about how they weren't able to verify my address, which is a PO Box. When I called, the AA phone rep mentioned added security at this time of year for cards with PO Box addresses.
This may be a Chase requirement, as I had just put through a separate $100 gift card purchase on my new AmEx Business Platinum card, which has the same PO Box address. THAT charge went through without a hitch.
The AA rep then asked me for the toll-free number for Chase off the back of my card, which I provided. She called Chase, and after a short delay, my charge was approved and put through.
Now I'm wondering whether Chase might have asked AA what the purchase was for. And if identified as a gift card, whether it'll code for for the Annual Travel Credit. Will report back with whatever I see.

Chase has posted the $100 credit for my AA eGift card purchase.

Wow. $300 payment for a Disney Cruise pending for two days. The day it posted, there is the $300 credit sitting right below it. Nice!

Statement Closing Date 2016
Hi everyone. I just applied last week. My statement closing date was in January. I just called and asked them to move it sooner so I could take advantage of the $300 credit for 2016. The customer service rep was happy to do (changed it to December 28th) but said that it's her understanding that it likely still wouldn't credit my travel purchases to 2016. Does anyone have any experience or data points on this? Thank you!

Edit: Also, what is the source of the "your statement has to post in 2016 not 2017"?
