Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

It USED to be (I don't know if this is still true), that you could "double-dip" in a way by purchasing *something* that coded as travel within 30 days after the Renewal fee hit, and then downgrade and not have it clawed back. I do not know if this is still the case (I didn't see anything in the Wiki).

I found this:
https://pointsyak.com/benefits/can-s...travel-credit/

But that was back in 2017. I don't know if it's still true or not.
Yes, one should still be able to double dip the annual travel credit. (On a related note, the triple dip travel credit can no longer be obtained.)

Marriott GC

Anyone purchase a Marriott GC lately and have it credited? It doesn't code differently if it is a physical or email card, right? I see the data point in the sticky, but it doesn't seem to be recent. Other hotels chain gift card data points are helpful too, thanks.

It's still true. The timing has gotten tighter over the years, but it still works.

I'm thinking to try the $300 travel credit double dip and then downgrade.

My account statement ends on 23 May, and on the phone the rep said the $300 travel credit will become available again on 24 May. The annual fee I was told will be charged on 1 June. Does anyone know whether I have 30 days to downgrade and have the annual fee refunded, and whether the 30 days would be from 23 May or 1 June?

If you cancel, you have 30 days from 23 June (the statement that has your AF on it).
hi @pallhedge, I'm just wondering where do you see the 40 day datapoints on people downgrading from the CSR? thank you very much

yes, I purchased 2 Marriott gift cards on their recent 20% off promotion, and I received the credit. I bought e-gift cards.

I was reminded that my CSR card renewal month is not when I pay the annual fee, and so I’m not sure about how much is left of my $300 credit and don’t know how to calculate exactly when I would need to use it by. Looking through the statements, the month of the annual fee may be the membership year cutoff, the beginning or end of the billing cycle. If I’m not going anywhere soon, is there a way to make a purchase that would qualify for the credit such as a flight reservation, but not that?

There is. Temporarily, you can use the credit for groceries or gasoline. Read THIS post.

For some reason, my travel credit on my Reserve resets in May, while my annual fee is due in September. I ugraded this card to a Reserve from a Preferred last year. To my knowledge, I have only paid one standard reserve annual fee of $450, but I will have exhausted $600 of travel credits by the time I use my current credit.

If I cancel or downgrade my card before my annual fee is due, does Chase clawback travel credits or otherwise penalize the cardholder? While I probably won’t be taking this course of action this his year, it could be something I seriously consider in 2021 as i will be under 5/24 and will be legible for a Sapphire bonus

The Ultimate Rewards dashboard page tells you how much Travel Credit you have remaining and when it resets (month/year).

First $300 Travel never earns points

I just noticed this language at the end of the newest version of the CSR Benefits Page:

$300 Annual Travel Credit: A statement credit will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for purchases in the travel category, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $300. Starting June 1, in addition to eligible purchases made in the Travel category, purchases posted by December 31, 2020 in the Gas Stations and Grocery Store categories will also count toward the $300 Annual Travel Credit. Annually, the first $300 in travel purchases will not earn rewards points, regardless of whether the Annual Credit was earned on purchases for Travel, or for promotional offers on other categories, for example at Gas Stations, or Grocery Stores.

That last sentence seems to be saying that even if you use the Travel Credit toward Gas or Groceries, you will STILL not earn points on the first $300 of travel posting to your account. This seems to explain what I'm seeing in my account.

Some of my credit went toward Groceries which DID earn at 5x points for Groceries. Now I have a few small Travel purchases that are showing as earning 0 points, even tho I've already earned the full $300 "Travel Credit" earlier.

That is a rather complicated formula. Why not just say that the $300 of purchasing for which you receive credit does not earn points? The result is the same.

No it's not. Travel earns 3 points per dollar. Groceries (through the end of June) earned 5 points per dollar. Your simpler formula would give 600 fewer points to someone who spent $300 on groceries and then $300 on travel than to someone who spent $300 on travel and then $300 on groceries.
