After reading all the denial with Chase ( I opened like 5 chase cards within the last 2 yrs, and about 10 others from other banks). I wanted to give it a try. I have Ink Cash, Freedom, and Hyatt. I have UR points, and needed a Sapphire to transfer to Airlines/hotel. I was hoping for automatic approval...but nope. Called in, denied, and pretty much the rep just said,"sorry, it was denied because you had 5 or more cards open within the last 24 months, good bye".

Lucky, I still had the Ink Cash that was downgrade from Ink Plus. I called up Chase, and asked them to change it back to Ink Plus.

I was approved for the Ink Plus in the beginning of June no problem. I called in immediately after I apply to just verify my identity. No other questions about my other cards.

I do have a checking/savings account for the past 5 years. Maybe the rule don't apply to business cards?
I think your last sentence is the key. We have several data points on that.

Applied for personal Southwest last night, after 5 inquiries, 3 new accounts, 2 new Chase accounts (1 personal, 1 business) in the past 6 months. I already had 4 Chase accounts (2 personal, 2 business). Ultimately approved after shifting credit from another personal account.

Submitted application and got this message:

Thanks for applying.

Please call us as soon as possible at U.S. 1-800-527-7419 or International 1-302-594-8200 Mon-Sat 8am-10pm ET and Sunday 10am-9pm ET to discuss your application with a Customer Support Specialist.

Please reference #xxxx when you call.
Called this morning. Asked whether I'd be able to get more credit in the future given more explanation or documentation, and they said they try to keep people's credit around 60-something percent of their income, and I'm already above 70. They considered my personal and business accounts.

Thanks for all the discussion here! Really helped me.

First off this is a cross post as there is a much smaller thread in the SW forum but I figured More people would see it here.

I just got a Marriott Card today..............over 20 apps in the past 2 years including several with Chase..............zero denials, all instant approval.

Since I just fiund out about the changes @ Chase I also applied my fiance for a South West premier card with Instant Approval $15k CL.

She has a IHG, HYATT and SW plus currently Open with Chase and has opened at least 14 other cards in the past 2 years.

Really? So maybe my dreams of getting another SW CP early next year aren't pure fantasy after all.

Mine was a Marriott card, I applied ( today) before I even heard about the new rules.

My Fiance got the SW Premier ( which will complete her CP) today also as I figured after I read the news we would give it a shot.

Our plan was for her to bridge CP for 2016 ( mine expires 12/31/15) and then I go back in 2017 for CP which would mean I basically have to stop applying for cards now as my last card was application was in April

I was way off on her cards, besides the 3 open Chase cards she applied for 14 other cards in the past 24 months.

We also grabbed her another 50K HH Visa minutes later.

All cards were instant approval as you know we also lower CL's which may have factored in her instant approvals

My odds on a new CP keep getting better. Although, I probably have as many new accounts in 12 months as she has in 24.

Data Point for CSP:

Relatively new to the hobby. But have been getting in pretty hardcore since March 2015.

Have had a Chase Mileage Plus Select (converted to Explorer in Feb 2015) since 2011. Have paid annual fee every year. [Pretty much making mistake after mistake, but I digress]

March 2015 Barclays
March 2015 Chase [AU only]
April 2015 Citi
June 2015 Citi
June 2015 Chase CSP

Again, the CSP would make 5, and I since I'm pretty up on this hobby now I knew I wanted to make CSP my 5th card. My DW got the Freedom as her 5th card. Since we both have the respective cards now I made us each AU on the accounts for the bonus points but I waited until the apps were approved.

Have opened 13 personal & 6 business cards across all banks in the past 2 years, 2 personal & 2 business of those were from Chase. Also, my Sapphire Preferred has been open for 3 or 4 years, so I wasn't purely a UR churner. Just mostly.

Had just been approved for United Explorer on 5/5 after initially showing pending, but without reconsideration call required.

And as it has been their annoying trend the past year, they pulled from both Transunion and Experian for me (in Chicago).
So that's 19 accounts in two years?!?!? That's a lot and from my Banker perspective I would probably deny you as well.

Applying for Chase Credit Cards-Read Wiki First [Consolidated]

There does seems to be some inconsistencies in these reports. May thinking is that app o rama would be more important than ever cramming as must cards as you can do spend in one day when you are at 4 cards over 24. Then as soon as those fall off, do 4 cards at your leisure then app o rama again with maybe 2 chase cards as part of it. Though that would mean you need to do MS as well.

The inconsistencies probably have to do with available credit. The key to getting Chase cards now ( if you have 5 or more apps/24 months) is instant approval.

While My Fiance applied for way more than 5 cards she had lowered the limits on her 3 Chase cards ( and every other card she gets )to $2500 each ( from over $15k each ) months ago. This is probably why she got instant approval with 17 open cards in the past 24 months.

Same deal for me as I got instant approval despite opening about 20 cards.

If your Chase credit line is near the max you probably won't get instant approval and are then denied by a agent.

This same scenario played out with people going for multiple US cards a while back, if it wasn't instant approval you were denied.

It seems Chase's system can't weed out every application without cutting off all instant approvals which would create a log jam of apps to be reviews.

My advice is if you want a Chase card and are over the new card limit apply ASAP.

"Probably"? Hmm. Except for (1) all the posts documenting approval after recon, and (2) ridiculously assuming auto-approval cannot count applications as easily as a CSR can.

The key to Chase cards now is not instant approval, but your relationship with Chase in the recent past. That's a dire recollection for some of you, I know. But not to those of us who toed the line.

Now for a reality based post, from someone who actually applies for cards, instead of just posting about it:

Do we have any data points showing whether an Amex charge card is included in the 5 card limit for new UR cards?
