If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Not a non-disclosure-and nothing to do with legal action.... In fact, I never got around to filing my claim against Chase. However I do not trust that Chase doesn't have people on this board who read about MS. If you want to know how I got my points back PM me. I already told several people. If I post it here, I can be fairly sure that this little "glitch" will be plugged fairly quickly and will not benefit anyone.

If you want to keep this from Chase, how will you know that the person who PMs you is not from Chase?

I agree with brettskyg. This info is of interest to only very few. Our situation is unfortunate and I sure hope nobody gets in it. On top of that, the 'trick' is not confirmed yet and, I am pretty sure, won't work for me.

I am glad at least somebody was able to get their points back. I wish more people would.

I wish there were laws to guarantee that. I see no difference in cases like this vs getting into your checking account and taking money out.

B/c My preference is to help as many "Chase Victims" as I possibly can. It may have been isolated to just me and possibly not able to be replicated, but I have responded to over 25 people and told them what happened with me yesterday. I have nothing to hide, I got my points back, and my relationship with Chase is over.

If on the chance though what happened to me is a system wide glitch than can be replicated, It is my way of giving back to this community. Either way, the procedure is really very simple, and I am interested to know if it worked for anyone else?

Update on Chase and getting points back

A few ppl who contacted me tried the same trick and were also successful. For those that I told who also lost their points and have not tried this yet, I suggest giving it a shot.

I got shutdown by Chase last week. I just got back from my japan trip where I spent 5 fabulous nights in Hyatts thanks to Chase Ink.

While I was away, I got a letter in the mail from chase saying my checking and saving account will be closed. The letter was from operational loss prevention.

So I logged in online and looks like all my CCs have been closed. I had 5 personal and ink plus. I was able to transfer 40k+ UR to wife's UA account. I had a decent history with chase, CC since 2008 and checking since 2011.

I think it was due to buying 6k in offfice supplies last month. I used to spend 3-5k at 711 which they clearly didn't mind. 5x probably got me in trouble.

I'm pretty bummed. I was really counting on the annual free nights from fairmont and IHG (as wife has those cards as well).

I earned 500k UR points in last two years and booked 4 biz awards to asia on ua.

I doubt it was just your 6k in office supplies last month. You maxed out the Ink bonus two years in a row. Unless you're swiping a million a year or something, they're losing money on you.

Hope you have not lost any UR. If so, contact brettskyg for a way to get it back.

I did not maximize 5x categories for two years in a row. Part of the 500k was sign up bonuses (CSP 75k, Ink 50k). I later converted the csp to freedom and also maximized quarterly 5x. I also put a lot of 1x spending on the freedom cards (buxx and chase fee free GC). For a while, chase freedom was my go to card and I also got some portal points.

Only recently I started ramping up 5x office supply. I had stayed away from those due to high cost but with the OM promos, I started buying office supplies. I did only around 5k last year but in first three months of 2014, it totaled ~10k.

I'll never know why they shut me down but I think the triggering point was office supplies. I'm sure other factors weighed in like 20+ active cards.

I got the fairmont card in January and they gave me a generous 25k+ limit, so I thought they were happy with all the MS I was doing. They probably liked the 1x/2x MS, just not 5x.

I only lost 985 UR as they transfer in 1k increments.

What about your payments? How did you pay Chase? Somebody suggested that my Walmart billpay caused my shutdown - I was never heavy in office spending. Chase Gift cards - yes, but it stopped in Sep and I got shut down in Dec

I am sure that card issuance and account terminations are totally different departments. And the fact that one gave you a card with a certain limit means nothing to the other.
