Best use of Chase Sapphire Points
My wife and I each received a targeted offer for this card about six weeks ago which came with 70,000 points each with a $3k spend. We have the cards and we have the points.
I don't have any current need for award travel as I have used BA and AA miles for any planned trips during the next 12 months. I do need to purchase some regional air in Tahiti that requires $$. What is the best use of the 140,000+ points that we have? Thanks. |
Not sure if you need the cash, but you can turn those 140k points into $1,400 in cashola :)
I think you can also redeem for air travel at a reduced rate (i.e. points go farther) on the UR website. Though I don't know if that includes regional air in Tahiti. |

Yup. Twice.
Did you go through the mall properly? Have the charges come up on your card as Westin charges? But it's only 4 weeks now since my stay though I was expecting them to show in mall earnings preview earlier. I did use Starwood Amex and Chase Ink at check out as I have lost my Sapphire during my current trip so I could not use for check-out. I thought the card used really does not matter, or? I stayed at various Sheratons and ITC (Starwood Indian affiliate) no Westins though. |

show the user when the points were actually posted for the transactions?
Go to ultimaterewards.com LOGIN Click: Earn faster > See Ultimate Rewards Activity Note that the display shows one month at a time, and entries are grouped by transaction date, not by posting date. |

Good to hear that they can post. I went through correctly (I have been getting points for other transactions many times).

Even though I'd rather get double SPG points for paying for these, I always use my Sapphire, figuring I'll end up with 4x Sapphire points this way - 2x for a hotel purchase, plus the 2x for the mall use. |
Need help understanding CDW for this card
We are going to France in a few weeks and renting a car. My husband plans to use his Chase Sapphire Preferred card. I saw on this thread that this coverage is secondary. What does that mean? Does this mean his regular car insurance is primary? If primary doesn't pay, does secondary then kick in for the remainder?
Also, on their website there is only 2 lines describing CDW and it doesn't indicate primary vs. secondary. Is there some more information around so I can have proof of what is covered and not covered. When I check benefits for my Capital One Visa, it is a couple of pages long spelling out exactly what is covered and not covered for CDW. I want to have peace of mind when I decline the Hertz insurance in France. Thx! |

"If the car is involved in an accident, the car rental company will charge everything to your card or send it to your insurance company. If the coverage on your credit card is secondary, your insurance company will be contacted first and only the deductible amount and other charges not covered by the insurance company will be sent to the credit card. If the credit card coverage is primary, your insurance company will not be informed and the credit card company will be sent the bill. In most cases, credit cards cover the whole amount. Nevertheless, there are some fees that they might not cover." Source: http://www.boardingarea.com/blogs/un...r-car-rentals/ Being that this is international the rules may change though! I would highly suggest you send a secure message to chase and ask for more details on coverage so you have everything in writing in case something does happen. You will know what is and isn't covered and how the process works. To be honest it's a bit confusing, and adding in international car rental makes it even more complex. |

We were in a minor fender bender in Florida a while back with a rental car operated by a man from New York. He had declined the CDW because of credit card coverage - and he left his auto insurance card at home. Florida requires drivers to carry proof of insurance. And since he didn't have his auto insurance card - he got a ticket for failing to carry proof of insurance. It can be a little tricky getting various kinds of insurance coverages that you deem important when you are traveling outside your home country. Robyn |
Ch Sapphire-points needed to redeem travel
Hello all, sorry if this question is discussed elsewhere.
I have seen no comments regarding points needed to redeem for air travel. Are the points in parity with the air carrier sites? I know zero about Bank sponsored cards. Back in the old days, these Bank card programs would offer travel at ridiculously high point redemption levels. thank you in advance. |

http://www.chasesapphirepreferred.com "Plus, when you choose Chase Sapphire PreferredSM: Get 20% off airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises when you redeem through Ultimate Rewards. For example, a $500 flight requires just 40,000 points Transfer your Ultimate Rewards points to participating frequent travel programs at full value -- that means one Ultimate Rewards point = one partner mile/point" Most people will reap the greatest value by transferring UR points to the participating frequent-traveler programs, like United, British Airways, Hyatt Hotels, etc. |

No it does not. The site suggests that you pay with your Chase card, but Chase collects a commission from the merchant for every transaction without regard to method of payment and they will credit you for the purchase if you are persistent.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...d-ur-mall.html "Check out with your Chase card and your extra points will automatically appear on your statement." Can you explain your interpretation? I understand that it may work if you don't use Chase but wouldn't that be just a glitch in the code and not the true intent of how the UR Mall is supposed to work? Can I contact Chase and get them to give out bonus points if I use a different cc and go through the UR Mall and have the screen shots to prove it? TIA for your thoughts on this. |

I assumed that this meant no extra points unless Chase cc is used:

The statement above refers literally to the points appearing on your statement. The Chase statement shows points you earned via the normal spend, bonus categories, and the UR mall. Any points earned via the mall can be tracked via the UR mall itself, regardless of the credit card used. |
Has anyone verified that booking a UA or *A flight through ultimaterewards.com yields more benefits than booking through ua.com?
Including booking on ua.com with the Mileage Plus Explorer card? That's assuming the flights are the same, the prices are the same? |
