Do anyone know if metrocard purchases in NYC earn 2x UR points with this card?

How do foreign transactions show up on the SP? I just booked 3 nights at a Hotel President Wilson in Geneva, on the Starwood site. The charge was supposed to be 1160.01 CHF which for the past few weeks has been right around $1275. It showed up on my card as a $1323.56 charge. Did the hotel charge me in dollars and add a 4% exchange fee or did Chase "not charge a foreign transaction fee" but use a bad exchange rate?

On the date it was charged (2/4/13) x-rates.com shows it would be $1276.37.

Chase will list the currency of the purchase followed by the exact rate based on the date of the purchase on your statement. Look at your statement. If it simply lists the name of the hotel and the price, then the transaction was in USD and you were likely the victim of dynamic currency conversion, a sleazy tactic by overseas merchants that converts the total into USD at exchange rates favorable to the merchant (usually 3%).

They do, as do cabs, parking lots, commuter rails. Just about anything that gets you from point a to point b gets doubled.

SPG through Westin Link

I booked a Westin through the portal and got the points - but only received them several weeks after the stay (I had forgotten about the portal bonus and assumed I was not going to get them, given the fact that the W bonus never posted).

Both of these were booked with the SPG card, so that may also be a variable.

I've just made two bookings, at non Westins, through the Westin UR mall link. Will report back on outcome.

That's great, thanks for the quick responses!

Done it twice.

Once I got points automatically. Once I had to complain.

Fortunately the one I complained on was charged to my Sapphire. The other was on an SPG card, so that would have been a tough battle.

I know I'm not adding a lot of value to the thread with this post, but I gotta say that I really, really like the call center benefit. It is awesome to get my call picked up on the first ring and get whatever issue/question I've got resolved or answered right away, without going through phone tree hell or offshore. Super benefit.

Agreed. When I have questions about my other Chase cards I call the Sapphire number, ask a Sapphire related question and then move on to my other chase questions. Very well trained CSR's.

EDIT: I missed the sticky thread in forum concerning my question. Sorry!

It all depends. When calling to check your balance or transaction history it's much quicker to be handled by an automated system than a person. Fortunately you can call the number for other Chase cards (Freedom, etc) and use the automated system there.

Does the MasterCard version of the CSP have the same flight delay insurance, cancellation/interruption insurance, and so on, as the Visa does?

But at most transactions, the terminals offered to charge me in Francs or Dollars. I did a rough calculation in my head a couple of times and it seemed they were charging more in dollars than using the straight exchange rate. Like I said, the rates were changing daily or even during the day.

But I always chose CHF value. We'll see how Chase handles those transactions I haven't checked yet.

this is the latest scam from travel biz, always choose local currently as the fx rate charged by the biz is always bad and your cc will charge you a fx fee anyways for the transfer...
