Tonight I logged into Ultimate Rewards (using my Chase ID and password), navigated to Travelocity, and bought a ticket using my CSP card. Does this mean I will get a total of 4x points on the cost of the ticket? There wasn't anything else I had to do, was there?

Glad I browed this thread today too. It hadn't even occured to me, in fact I bought the ticket this morning on the Delta site, but I was able to refund it since it was under 24 hours.

Unfortunately it will be a bit less than 4x, because you don't get bonus points on taxes and fees, and these can be more than half of the ticket price.
For example I booked a flight to Europe on Travelocity for $1,340, but I only got UR Mall bonus points on $650, because the rest were airport taxes, airline fees etc.

I was expecting to get the extra point for Travel on 2 day trips we did in Brazil last month. I sent a few messages back and forth with front-line reps who basically copied T&C with how the merchant is categorized. I sent back links to the travel agencies websites and got this:

I have carefully reviewed your account and show that your
purchases for Amazon Star Turismo Belem along with Vale
Verde Turismo Belem were not qualified to earn bonus
points as "travel" since both purchases were categorized
as "Package Tour Operator".

Please note that merchants who accept Visa/MasterCard
credit cards are assigned a merchant code based on the
kinds of products and services they sell. Chase groups
similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of
making rewards offers to you. Chase makes every effort to
include all relevant merchant codes in its listed
categories. However, even though a merchant or the items
that it sells may appear to fit within a listed category,
the merchant may not have a merchant code that falls
within that category. Therefore, purchases with that
merchant will not qualify for the stated rewards offer on
category purchases
It was signed by a USA based Senior Service Specialist.

So how am I supposed to know how Visa codes merchants? It wasn't a huge amount of points, around 250 you would think they would at least have Goodwilled them or something.

Sorry Tiki, I would have thought that they'd toss you a bone and give you a few points. This website seems to list the coding for merchants within the U.S. If you play around with the url you may be able to get it to work for other countries (if I recall, you are in Australia?). I got this off another thread on FT (maybe upthread here?) from another FT'er. http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/...tLoadAction.do

buying ua miles on the ua site

i bought 100,000 miles on the ua site for me and 100000 for wife. total bill came to a bit over $4500. billed as "ual mileage plus miles". no bonus for spending dollars for travel. got 1 mile per dollar. they said "must be wrong codes". is this worth chasing(bad pun) and is there another way to buy miles for ua for more points from chase, and at a better price.

Does anyone have the details on the trip delay coverage (up to $300 for a covered event)? I saw a blogger mention it today. Seems this could come in handy for those stranded due to Sandy (me included :)). I've been crashing at my friend's place to save money but might go to a hotel for my last night here if covered.

I'm looking for the specific T&Cs, limitations, exclusions etc. of the various Travel Protection plans, namely
Trip Cancellation Insurance
Travel and Emergency Services
Travel Accident Insurance
Trip Delay
Lost Luggage Reimbursement
Baggage Delay

I imagine that it's a small-print nitty-gritty document (as opposed to general marketing materials), and would very much appreciate help in finding where it's located.

TIA!

any updates on the trip delay coverage? is it extra fee paid? what about trip cancellation insurance?

Best use of spare Sapphire pts

If I get rid of Sapphire card, would the best use be to transfer orphan pts to United, Hyatt, or Amtrak?

What is my favorite color?

Hard to answer without knowing more about you. If you want to fly, United; if you want hotels, Hyatt; if you want train travel, Amtrak.

In general I'd say United points are worth the most because you can (sometimes) get great international first-class redemptions (if you book close-in, e.g., on LH). But if you're going to Tokyo, maybe you want the Hyatt points to stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo.

If you have absolutely no plans or goals, and just need a place to park points, I guess I'd go with United, because you can probably find deals on nice hotels but you can't get particularly cheap deals on international premium cabin travel.

Interesting question. A blogger recently talked about this: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/onemil...ases-directly/

But you seem not to have gotten the 2x. Are you sure it wasn't somehow actually handled via points.com or something? Note also that DL purchases show up as Delta, but it was pulling teeth trying to get Amex to reimburse that as an "airline" charge.

If you need to top up, it's cheaper to buy UR points and transfer to UA than to buy UA miles outright. http://travelsort.com/blog/how-to-bu...rewards-points

For example, 5000 miles will cost you $188 with UA and just $125 buying UR points. But you can only buy 5000 UR points per calendar month.

when ua has a special, one can purchase 100,000 points for $2,250. one then gets 2250 ur points for the card, which gives 102250 points for the 2250. that's 2.2cents a point.

Why would you get rid of your Sapphire Card? It's one of the best products out there for the 99% of us that don't qualify for the AMEX Centurion or JP Morgan Palladium cards. (If anything, upgrade your card to the Sapphire Preferred)

silly question,

Does transferring points that I earned on my INK PLUS to CSP earn 7%?

Actually, not a silly question. The answer is YMMV but most likely no. The T&C for the 7% bonus state it is for points earned. But some people have seen their transfer points bonused, especially when the card was first introduced.

I'm interested in buying a vacation via Costco Travel website.

Is it safe to say that I will get 2x UR pts with Sapphire Pref?

i certainly would not say that it is safe. united mile purchases do not show up at 2x. i called. for an answer, got "......................they must have coded it wrong" that was for a $4500 purchase. they did not change and "give" me the extra miles. i was too tired and did not have enough energy to throw a grade A hissy fit. i have had the card for 3 months, and run about $40k through it, so being a live customer is not enough.
