Experiences using non-Chase card at UR Mall

Hi,

I've read that people have had success using non-Chase cards at the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall. I have a question and a caution.

Until recently, all purchases I've made at the mall were on the Chase Sapphire card. But I got the Amex Biz card on 2/29 and have that huge spend ahead of me, so my husband and I put several very large purchases on the Amex at the Chase Mall.

Alas, none of them have posted. These purchases amounted to 8,333 points altogether. I've sent a SM and called twice but each time I'm getting shot down because the purchases were not made on the Chase card.

For now, my purchases are going through other malls on Amex until I've hit the spend on these business cards.

Caution: be careful making large purchases with non-Chase cards at the UR Mall!

Question: Has anyone had success getting a Chase CSR to post points for purchases that were not on the Chase card?

Anita

I, too, am very interested in Anita's question above. It says "check out with your chase card" on the portal page. I am wondering though if points are still awarded if you do not use your Chase card at the UR Mall since you are still using the portal? Any past experiences.

Yes you can receive points when paying with another issuer's card, but I think Anita's question is more specific. If the points do not post automatically has anyone managed to have Chase customer service post them if there is no Chase card transaction to point to as evidence?

I succeeded when I paid with a Chase BA VISA which, or course, does not participate in Ultimate Rewards, but it was very tedious as explained in this post. I have also made purchases using a Citi card, and these posted automatically.

I just made a Travelocity purchase and am hoping the points show up in my Ultimate Rewards account. I understand there is no recourse for research purposes, but hoping the points will come through. Chase still earns the commission so would hope it does.

Maybe it has something to do with the the OP using an Amex card because there are no amex cards in the Ultimate Rewards program and it would be easy to detect and not give points for amex card purchases.

I've gotten points for an Amex card purchase - but any time I use a card other than a Chase card I assume that I bear the risk of not getting my points. I wouldn't call chase and say "look at my amex statement - I bought something . . . " So, if the bonus is important to you use a Chase card, and if its really important - use the actual UR Chase card.

Customer service "should" be able to research the transaction the same as any other shopping portal that is not linked to a credit card issuer. The question is how many staffing levels we must navigate before we find someone who has the capability of understanding and investigating (i.e. contacting the merchant).

Front line customer service seems to be provided by Chase itself, but the merchant contacts may be through the actual mall operator: Cartera.

Anyone ever tried contacting the merchant directly? I imagine they would be even more clueless, but in some instances it might be easier than working with Chase.

I got points using a large variety of cards too. But as per the terms and conditions on UR Mall, points should be awarded only when a corresponding Chase card is used, so we should consider ourselves lucky that the system has no way to see this loophole.

Merchants are clueless most of the time. Customer service agents or even IT technicians know little about any cashback program.

I think it's a suggestion, not a requirement. Please provide a link to the terms which specify this, if you have found one. I do not see it:

Mia, I had the same feeling you did...

I think the phrasing leaves open the possibility of using another card:

"Check out with your Chase card and your extra points will automatically appear on your statement."

Also, the transition page when navigating from Chase to Kohls includes the following language:

"Please note these terms & conditions: Special increased earnings now through 3/31/2012! Not eligible on gift cards. Eligibility calculated on final sales total (after discounts or promotions are deducted from purchase price, including Kohl's Cash). Not eligible on Kohl's credit card sales made with coupon codes that are higher than 15%."

The part about Kohls credit card sales with specific coupon codes suggest to me that if you do not use coupon codes over 15%, you can use your Kohls credit card and get points.

The CSR I spoke with verged on rude about this; however. She was insistent that those were KOHLS terms and conditions, not Chase's, and that they had nothing to do with Chase. She said the "check out with your chase card" is all that matters.

How do others interpret that language on the Kohl's transition page?

Two Chase CSR's explicitly confirmed, in writing, that it is not necessary to use a Chase card.

Did you escalate beyond a front line CSR to get this response?

Thanks for your input, Mia. I'm going to give this one more try!

One frontline rep knew this, but several others said the opposite. It was a struggle to have the same person answer consecutive messages. In the end I went into robot mode and auto-replied "I will only respond to messages from manager X", and eventually the messages made their way to her.

By the time we spoke on the phone the points had posted. (They posted backdated to when the reservations had been made, which means I could not see them unless I navigated back a couple months.)

I raised the question during that conversation, and she confirmed that we could pay with "any" card, but that if the points did not post automatically it would be "difficult" for Chase customer service to help.

Bear in mind, I have made several purchases with Citi cards and these have posted automatically. It's only if something goes wrong on the merchant's side that you even need to address this.

Shot down again!

I called Chase again to try to get my 8300+ points from Chase UR Mall purchases made with other credit cards. The CSR told me once again that I need to use my Chase card to get the points.

I pointed out that I've received points before without using my Chase card, and he said "that may be the case, but if they don't post automatically, we can't help you unless they're on the Chase card."

I'm out a bunch of points and I'm not going to chance it anymore.
