None. Use the Hongkongcard link and the wiki post I've been maintaining over there.

No need to use CCB ATM for withdrawing the cash advance once your account is in credit? (I know you should always use CCB ATM for paying in to put your account in credit, although I actually used online banking)

Unnecessary but recommended to avoid any finance charge.
NB: Between the transaction date and bill date, you may be charged finance charge notwithstanding that there is a credit balance in your card.

Further, remember to pay attention to the minimum service fee per transaction, which I think is $100, and the max amount allowed for each transaction, depending on the machine type. Thus you should do ATM with 5000, 4900 and 2900 or 9,900 and 2,900.

Many thanks, great advice as always! Actually I only need to cash advance about $9,000 to top up spending on one card. Will try and find a CCB machine that lets me do the whole lot in one go.

Percy, any updates on transfer times?
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17805625-post4.html

I transferred from HSBC -> AM on 6 Dec and still don't see anything. (Already enrolled half yr ago). Or maybe they are being swarm with requests before year end?

My experience has been that HSBC normally seem to credit to AM on Monday nights. You were most likely too late for the transfer last Monday, but they may come through tonight (just had two transfers of mine arrive an hour or so ago).

SCB Visa 30,000 AM on 50,000 spend 15 Dec 15-14 Jan 16 *or* 15 Jan 16-14 Feb 16

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...p?id=16847&p=1
https://www.sc.com/hk/promotion/cred...ds/wow-winter/

SCB Visas only, this includes their Plat and VI

Ignore the 5% and "10%" (4.5%) offer, only the 30K AM for $50K spend is worth your while.

Must register and spend on Visa card.

No point playing card sea as SCB will only award one parcel of 30,000 AM per HKID.

No min amount on the Visa spend.

The eligible spend is pretty broad - all local and overseas retail purchases, online purchases, cash avance, mail order and phone order.

There doesn't appear to be any restriction (c.f. CCB 939) that cards opened during and just before the promotion cannot play, so it might be worthwhile if you already have another SCB card (e.g. Worldmiles) to apply for a Plat Visa in addition to play this. A $300 redemption on Worldmiles can also clear out and combine points on the Plat Visa.

Edit 20 Dec: but there is a phase restriction - all 50K must be spent in one phase (15 Dec 15-14 Jan 16 *or* 15 Jan 16-14 Feb 16)

percysmith, thanks for the heads up again

Are you saying that you wouldn't bother spending $50k for SCB's 30k AM? you would only go for the 10% rebate offer?

Fallinasleep sorry for my numbering I used the T&C numbering, which is not same as the numbering on the cover of the promo. I deleted references to offers 1, 2 and 3 and substituted 5%, "10%" and 30K AM for $50K spend respectively.

Hi Percy, would like to seek your advice regarding which cards are best for my upcoming trips. I'd be going to Japan during Christmas and Chinese New year.
I have HSBC (Premier and VS - my 6x is allocated to overseas spend), one CCB platinum (registered for 939), premiermiles and Fubon (I have one more 8x registration left).

On both trips I'd likely spend the same amount (30k+), so am wondering what is the best strategy to use. Thanks for your time!

So much choice. Lucky you.

Let's just try and list your earn rates first.

Fubon: That's the simplest, 8X is $1.5/mile to $20,000 spend to 28 Feb

Citi Premiermiles: With the up to $2/mile offer kicking in after $5,000, your earn rate is $2.18/mile on $30,000 spend. But that only goes to 31 Jan

CCB Platinum: assuming your target is $12,800, you get 12,800x3 + 75,000 points for spending $12,800 in Japan, which is 7,560 miles or $1.693/mile

HSBC: this is the ugliest earn rate to work out:
You get $1.85/mile for spending overseas
You then get additional $3.33/mile for the December offer
Combined: $1.19/mile to $7,000, $1.85/mile thereafter ($2.77 in 2016)

I'm assuming:
1. You're not redeeming Avios
2. You're not trading coupons
3. You're not using 939 for cash advance

So, best to:

December: $12,800 CCB, HSBC remainder
February: $12,800 CCB, Fubon to next $20K, HSBC remainder

For February I will suggest fully spending the $12,800 first as CCB awards $1.31/mile for the last $100 of spending (only $3/mile for the first $100 so you average at $1.693 in the end). If you are under $32.8K spending, make sure CCB is fully filled before you start spending on Fubon.
