(Separate from HSBC-->CCB Wacko Strategy) there's two HSBC targeted offers being sent to customers by mail.

Around 18 Nov: 2% Exclusive Spending Rewards http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=16615

Last night (1 Dec): 100RC for $25,000 tax payment targeted offer http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=16743 (there's a $4,000 spend requirement attached to this but knock it out with Mannings 400RC for $4,000 promo)

---

P.S. This is slightly OT as it does not involve points/miles) For those of you who haven't planned for your tax payment yet, BEA's offering up to 0.25% cash rebate to all its cardholders to 28 Dec. This is the only non-targeted offer available now:

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=16592
http://www.hkbea.com/html/en/bea-cre...onlinetax.html

(Not better than targeted offers but if you were chosen by bank for targeted by bank you should receive mailed notification unless you opted out of direct marketing)

I got rejected by CCB(!), though got the HSBC Platinum. But then just saw in this thread the wacko strategy no longer works. What's the next best tax-paying strategy?

I also got a Citi Priority ATM card in the mail. Looks useless...

We are down to cash rebate offers only.

Every BEA cardholder can enjoy the BEA offer above to 28 Dec 15, otherwise it's whatever targeted offer we get in the mail. We have to rely on mailed offers and occasional cash rebate offers going forward.

Many thanks. There is also a targeted offer for Citi, rebate up to $300. I registered but promptly trashed the letter (as I was banking on the wacko!)...does anyone know the payment cap in order to make $300 (so that I can allocate among different cards)?

I've been using HSBC Premier MasterCard all along. In 2014-2015 my 6x was for overseas spending.

I just received my HSBC Visa Signature yesterday.

I want to keep 6x for overseas spending (but will use my Visa Signature only).

Do I need to re-register the 6x or does the Premier MasterCard selection apply to the Visa Signature for 2016?

Do nothing. If no change today your 6X choices will carry over to 2016.

Using Cash Advance for CCB 939

Just wanted to confirm that cash advance is still a viable strategy for meeting spending targets for this round of CCB 939? And does it still work out as an effective cost of around $0.07 per AM?

The first round of CCB 939 ends next Tuesday, so if I'm going to do this I'll have to act soon.

Also is prepaying your CCB card accounts to avoid bank finance charges likely to lead to any problems (after the recent experience where CCB aggressively pursued those who prepayed their CCB CUP account before the wacko tax strategy was cut off?

(1,000th post)

Cash advance does.

Cost is 12,800 x 0.035 = $448
Yield is (12,800+75,000)/15 = 5,853.33

Cost is around is $0.0765

Well CCB hasn't actually done much pursuing in December.

HSBC overseas extra $3.33/mile promo 10 Dec 15-10 Jan 16

(HT jokelib)
https://www.redhotoffers.hsbc.com.hk...seas-spending/

Not particularly attractive on its own, but if you play it along with 2% on spending, the earn rate improves to up to $2/mile

(And if you have Premier and are into Avios it can go up to $1.23/Avios)

r.
Many thanks. Actually the marginal benefit of cash advance is even higher in my case, because I've already spent the first $5,000 on each card and will only use cash advance for the extra spending that earns 939 points.

This is so strange. I received the same offer for an extra $15 in reward cash, but it was for local spend. Gonna use it to renew my gym membership instead of Citibank's IFC offer of $1000 in vouchers.

Would it count if I pay for online transactions via PointsHound, Kaligo or Expedia?
