Thank you.
No, it is not 8%. Just 6% if you team up or 4% if you dont.

Weekly cap is 1500 if u don't team up, and 1000 if you team up (max 60RC per week, 420RC in total).

Note that you need to spend at least $9,000 over the whole promotion period, if you team up, you will be spending $1000 x 7 weeks which is only $7,000.

Am I right that this year's RC haul is much smaller than last year's.
I believe to max out, last year people were spending well over HK 12000?

To max out.. one have to play in designated merchant (only broadway and mannings this year, no times square or new town plaza) and the weekly cap is RC200, overall cap is RC1400.. which is around $17,500 spending in Mannings/Broadway.

5 extra RC/$100 overseas spending
Max 400RC ($8,000 spend) (500RC ($10,000 spend) for Premier cardholders)

So for 500 spend you get 27RC --> 405 miles --> $1.23/mile

Min $500, must have sales slip
8228 1618 to register
Will buying on Amazon Germany (shipping to Germany; I'm going Christmas), transaction in EUR, qualify? Wouldn't think it has "physical sales slip" as paying in a store, but T&Cs say "Transactions including mail, fax and telephone orders, instalment plans and casino transactions will not be eligible for this promotion." Online transactions are not explicitly mentioned.

Must have sales slip - does Amazon DE have a physical payment outlet?

HSBC will simply not rebate that and when you protest that, ask you to fax then the sales slip to shut you up.

Thanks! I suppose they don't, so I'll hit a regular store then instead once on the ground.

Chrisli - can't cancel?

Have headaches with foreign currency online purchases - banks seem to hate these.

HSBC ain't smart enough to know about offshore / onshore spending even fancy legal jargons in T&C. Last I paid in HKD for a cruise and payment processing center was in UK - I got my 6x overseas promotion points.

Anecdotal evidence suggest to me even when you reached the maximum cap of 180k or so spending for overseas 6x promotion, they still awarded 6x points (yet to confirm myself).

So I wouldn't stress too much....as percysmith points out HSBC will simply ask for physical docket to shut you up if they don't like what you are requesting, but typically you are innocent until proven guilty with HSBC>

That's because HSBC uses location not currency to determine whether overseas or not. Look at the reverse case: USD90 payment to Cathay Pacific HK

Promo to 28 Feb 15 not 31 Jan 15 as stated earlier...if you're going for the Mannings strategy it may be worth waiting for the last 7 weeks because HSBC has some history upping the Mannings earn on the second week of January.

This offer is a little confusing. Can you help confirm if I read it correct ?

* Max Cap = 1400RC for the whole period & 200RC cap per week
* I will not be teaming up so I can only earn 4% RC rebate
* In order to get the full benefit I will need to spend the following at ANY local merchant (hotel in my case)

- For 7 Weeks I will need to spend $5000 each week
- This will give me the max RC rebate of $200 per week
- 7 x $200 = $1400RC for the whole promotion

The clause that confuses me is the one that says " entitled to a max of 1400 RC including a max of $420 at local merchants"

It just means I will need to go and pay $5000 every week which is a bit troublesome

No, it isnt correct.

200RC cap per week/1200RC in total only applies to designated merchant (Mannings/Broadway), a much lower cap is applicable to other merchant (hotel in twonga's case

Max cap for non-designated merchant is 60RC per week, 420RC in total.

If twonga is not teaming up, weekly max spending $1,500

Btw, I am sure that there are other FTer's who would like to team up. May be you can find your teammate here.
