And since we're playing guess your own op-up.

Here is my next CX flights

Dec 24, CX 881 LAX>HKG, In J cabin

F0 A0 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Flights with 1 F seat assigned and zero-out, J looks around 60% right now, Y zero-out with no more pre-assigned seats and MPC clearing some pre-blocked seats too.

Jan 8, CX 880 HKG>LAX, In J cabin

F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I8 Y2 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Flight with 2 F seats assigned, J around 60% full, Y with couple open pre-assigned seats left.

Usually I'm a little better luck on op-up going eastwards, with the last 2 winter breaks, I have gotten 2 J>F op-up on CX 888, one as silver and one as gold. So I hope third time is charm but I'll be an AA EXP this time. I feel i'll get it for Dec 24, hopefully a light travel day, no business guy like to fly on x-mas day, right? And I'm already in my fav seat for Jan 8.

Why are premium loads to NA so low?

I'm off to LHR next month, and on the day I'm flying, EF is currently showing:

CX255 F3 A2 J0 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

CX257 J1 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

CX253 F3 A2 J1 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

CX251 F2 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

and similarly for the week before and after...

I notice for alot of the long haul routes, these numbers can change rapidly during the week before the flight. On my HKG-JFK flight, 5 days ago it was J7, Y0 and the day before I fly, it has gone to J1, Y9,B9...Q9. Hence over a few days, it has gone from overbooked in economy to what appears to be lots of empty seats. This particularly happens on the ex-HKG routes to USA

You are right, now it says 9 across the Y-class board, anyway, I got my boarding pass in advance today and it's Y.

Thanks for all of you that have rooted for me. My offer for free beer stands (when I finally get a long-haul op-up I'll let you know).

I'll be CX-GO during my next trip, so I guess it's be a little bit more realistic then. However, JFK-HKG seems to be FFP nightmare (plenty of DM and GO) so I doubt it'll translate into anything realistic.

If it really does turn out to be the case that Y is very open (which is not always the case even with all the 9'ers) you may want to request for a block seat next to you?

Can SL asked for block seats? I remember calling MPC and asking the agent in the lounge to do it for me, and both times they reply "sorry, we can't do that"

I guess it all depends on the crew / ground staff, on my DXB-HKG trip last month, a cabin crew was waiting for me in my seat when i boarded the plane and told me that they are transferring me to another seat, they gave me the whole 2 seats to myself (specifically implied by the FA to me). I did not ask for them to do that, the flight was about 95% full , so no op-up

I find even if they blocked the seat for you... especially exit/bulkhead rows ... other passengers will move to sit there after takeoff.

Anyone encountered this situation before?

YES...many times, and i've given up trying to explain to them that these are blocked for me, so I quietly go to the FA and insist them to advise the pax about the scenario......as the last time i tried to solve this myself, it ended up in quiet a heated argument because apparently my loyalty to CX means nothing to them. They failed to understand, that if CX are fine to block the seat for me, and they have a problem with that, take it up with CX, not give me your opinion ! why should i feel sorry for CX's kind gesture to me....

Agreed - my tactic: just dump a pile of your stuff there. If its a two seater - sit C so as to obstruct access to A (or sit in H and obstruct K). I don't see anything wrong with telling the crew - but usually I'd find the ISM as the junior crew dont seem want to get involved (or feign ignorance).

It becomes tricky when you have a row of 4 blocked. In that case, I'd sit in E and make a mess with F G so to 'mark your territory' so to say!

I dont see why SLs cant ask for block seats - provided that you ask early enough and the flight isnt critical there shouldnt be a problem!

Often, especially when I board the plane towards the end. I tell the person to move. If they don't, I get the FA. Some document they have clearly states it's a seat block for you.

I'd say you'd get your long awaited op-up JFK-HKG, if that is the first flight after your promotion to CX-GO. MPO seems to like giving op-up as a tier promotion gift; as well as on the 5th and the 10th anniversary (my experience).

Your loyalty to CX is almost admirable at this point. You sure did pick an appropriate handler.

Well, no 5th year anniversary upgrade for me. So far CX is treating me like... well... normal...
