I guess it all depends on the crew / ground staff, on my DXB-HKG trip last month, a cabin crew was waiting for me in my seat when i boarded the plane and told me that they are transferring me to another seat, they gave me the whole 2 seats to myself (specifically implied by the FA to me). I did not ask for them to do that, the flight was about 95% full , so no op-up
