Touch wood for some no-shows? I am sure there will be some. To be honest, I can only cross my fingers and fully expect to be in Y for 15 plus hours. Anything more, and I treat it as a bonus. Some people seem to get op-upped every time or every other flight. The number of flights I take (and thus the number of opportunities I get) are low and as such I have not come to expect much. And that's ok with me. I am simply getting what I pay for.

That being said, getting that piece of fortune would be nice...

It seems that one J passenger was replaced by one Y passenger. Perhaps a passenger gave up J for Y.

There could be 2 meanings:

1. EY is so full that they have to block out seats in J/F to accommodate and you might get lucky, subject to your status.

2. J/F is completely full and you are SOL! Good things is, you are not alone in this case......some DMs might go down with you as well.

That probably means that additional F seats are sold (cash or miles). However, CX may be moving people up because if J5 > Y4, some J seats may be re-allocated as Y.

Looks like J class is also pretty full so not gonna be a huge number of Y-J op-ups and with you being Silver, I'd say your chances are slim - always better to manage your expectations.

You're in luck. Even as SL I'd say your chances are pretty good. I guess that's very typical of this route?

Where are you getting this from?

Certainly there might be operational upgrades into J (and you may even be told that, you'll get the J seat with Y meal) but I have never heard of CX preallocating/reallocating J seats as Y (I've seen this done for KA before to Hangzhou). Also, bear in mind its a 77A to JFK and with the mini cabin up front and the dorm in the second section, its pretty hard logistically to re allocate "some" J seats...

I'd say completely full flight. If you look at the seatmap, almost 80% of the seats open to allocation have been taken... the rest are blocked but can be released by calling MPC.

Looking across the week YYZ does look like upgrade heaven! Must be the students flying back and forth... Too bad cheapest V tickets are in the region of 8k for V class and requires 3 day min stay... otherwise very MR worthy!

If there is J availability close to departure, some airlines will have part of that availability in Y as well in order to maximise revenue. That may result in overbooking of Y and Y->J op-ups.
