I'll be CX-GO during my next trip, so I guess it's be a little bit more realistic then. However, JFK-HKG seems to be FFP nightmare (plenty of DM and GO) so I doubt it'll translate into anything realistic.
If it really does turn out to be the case that Y is very open (which is not always the case even with all the 9'ers) you may want to request for a block seat next to you?
