Yes, I don't know why they don't setup these test facilities like in FRA or HKG. Surely these aren't rocket science.

I don't think there will be rebooking fees. But if your voucher's worth 500 CAD and the new flight is 600, you need to pay the difference.

So much for summer visitors. The government announced yesterday that quarantine requirements for people entering the country are now extended to August 31st.

https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...800735691.html

Today, the Government of Canada extended the Emergency Order requirements related to mandatory isolation and quarantine until August 31, 2020, for travellers entering Canada.
Meanwhile, predictions about the reopening of the border with the U.S. to non-essential travellers are now discussing the end of the year.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/can...irus-1.5633650

"My guess is it's going to have to stay closed for more than 12 months," Colin Furness, an epidemiologist at the University of Toronto, told CBC News this week. "It's hard to imagine what's going to happen in the United States until we have a vaccine or until the population has been sufficiently infected that you have herd immunity."

When Leger Marketing asked Canadians in May when they thought Canada should reopen its border with the United States, 47 per cent of respondents said "not before the end of the year." With more than 2.6 million cases now in the United States, it's unlikely Canadians' enthusiasm for welcoming our American neighbours has increased since then.

We have a flight from SEA to YYC on August 31st. The announcement says "extended to August 31st". Does that mean the border might open ON August 31st or does it mean it's closed THROUGH Aug. 31st ??

Closed through August 31st. Here's the full regulation

https://orders-in-council.canada.ca/...=39477&lang=en

This Order has effect for the period beginning at 23:59:59 p.m. Eastern daylight time on the day on which it is made and ending at 23:59:59 p.m. Eastern daylight time on August 31, 2020.
I wouldn't feel too badly however. The odds on the order being extended to the end of September and beyond are be very high.

Are there not 2 orders though 2020-0524 which expires July 31 and covers travel to Canada and then there is 2020-0523 which is specific to quarantine and that expires August 31. Obviously still not much use for tourists given 2020-0523.

I dont think there will be much of a problem there, I paid out of the nose because of high season, plus maple leaf lounge tickets and other add ons (ironically though, i didnt pay for refundable fares, doh!). I am more likely to encounter the opposite problem, not being able to use the entire value up.

Still i hope that you are right. On the Air Canada subreddit, there were scores of people telling people not to accept the vouchers, because they were a rip off and to fight for a refund instead.

I believe there have been two separate orders from the beginning. One pertains to who is let in while the other determines what they have to do when they get here.

That might be overly dramatic, but one thing is for sure: hard cash is hard cash. Having a voucher means you're dependent on what Air Canada will come up with in the future in terms of fare conditions and routes and whatelsenot. I, personally, would try to get cash refunds.

There are three orders related to entering Canada associated with COVID.
  • Restrictions on non-essential travel to Canada by foreign nationals from US - expires Jul 21
  • Restrictions on non-essential travel to Canada by foreign nationals from non-US - expires Jul 31
  • Mandatory quarantine for those admitted regardless of nationality - expires Aug 31

It wouldn't be the best idea to book any travel to Canada based on those expiry dates.

Correct. And there is a 3rd order dealing with Americans which expires July 21st.

Exclamation

Folks, several posts have been deleted as this is not the venue in which to discuss COVID, infection or testing rates or anything else that relates to the virus instead of the thread topic. A new forum aptly enough called Coronavirus and Travel was created specifically to house virus topics while the OMNI P/R forum is available for virus topics with a political angle.

As this is the second warning in almost as many days, further off topic posts may result in thread closure and member discipline so please avoid wandering off topic going forward.

Canada appears to be toughening the borders.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-b...rder-1.5645990

As the volume of travellers entering Canada through the U.S. has increased in recent weeks, public health officials are being placed at land borders to bolster screening for COVID-19.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is adding on-site employees at 36 points of entry, including New Brunswick crossings in St. Stephen, Woodstock and Edmundston.

Travel across the border has been linked to a new cluster of cases in Prince Edward Island tied to an individual who came from the U.S. with a student visa.

To no one's surprise the Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel for another month.

In post #229 it stated that the border definitely would be closed through August 31st and the link to the actual order was posted there. Why is there now talk of just being closed through August 15th (or course subject to review at that time).
