As of Oct. 8, extended family members of Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents, including those in an exclusive dating relationship of at least one year and their dependent children, as well as adult children, grandchildren, siblings and grandparents can come to Canada.

That 6 people from a country of 330 million have done this doesn't seem worthy of a CBC article but okay.

The fall/winter weather in Canada will take care of this shortly.

.....
330 million people are NOT traveling from lower 48 to AK and that's six who got caught and singled out. Probably a lot more who got away with it

I would like to see what the courts determine under the common law of "exclusive dating relationship"?

i dunno how they would approach verifying that but they will offer clarity to some level when details come out 10/8 this thursday as far as for people that want to enter canada.

i presume the border agent can't deter you too much, as you would have had to apply ahead and get approved as a couple. but you could be asked basic questions. dunno if both of you have to meet up at the customs desk upon arrival, that would be ineffcient... i think the criteria already limits an american to.... do you know someone there that can bother to vouch for you. and that's already a small pool relative to the size of the tourist population that is being blocked from entering canada.

but what about the 14 day quarantine... are you used to quarantine yourself after arriving, then after the 14 days, be able to see your girlfriend? that involves a huge commitment of time that further filters out alot of people... we'll find out on thursday.

This is really at odds to what the feds are doing to people who legitimately live here. Further economy destroying lockdowns/restrictions on the way and yet the door is flung open even further for people to travel/immigrate here on some pretty flimsy and open to abuse grounds with no Australia,HK etc. style mandatory supervised quarantine facilities at the cost to the person coming here. Yet it's pretty well impossible for the average Canadian to even contemplate international travel or in cases even inter-provincial travel.

The average Canadian can certainly contemplate international travel but does so with the full understanding they will face a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon their return. Those on the expanded list of who are now permitted into the country are not relieved of the same quarantine obligation with the possible exception of a reduced quarantine if they are admitted on compassionate grounds to visit a critically injured or dying loved one.
