Latest guidance

From Heathrow Airport Limited, 22:14 GMT 19 Dec
Following UK Govt. advice, if you are in Tier 4, you should not be travelling unless it is legally permitted. If you’re in Tiers 1-3, you can still fly from Heathrow but should carefully consider whether you need to.

In light of the new tier restrictions, passengers should NOT plan unnecessary time at the airport. Please allow 2 hours ahead of departure for short haul flights and 3 hours for long haul flights.

More information can be found here

I think CAA is currently reviewing this indeed

This is called 'FlyerTalk' and is primarily designed for people who travel to discuss travel plans and travel programmes. It is not 'Medical Council Talk' or 'Doctors Forum' or 'Pandemic Stoppers'.

You are kinda both right. It doesn't *need* a court order, but it's up to the discretion of the Data Controller to be satisfied that the request to access data is necessary.

Note that the data controller should be making this decision and this decision making power is unlikely to be widely delegated out, and almost certainly not to your average staff member that the plod are likely to trip up over at their airport.

There may of course be some prearranged way for law enforcement to get hold of airline passenger details, eg. via advanced passenger information

Indeed, and even that's probably not neccesary as section 10.1 in Heathrow bylaws states that A person shall, if requested to do so by a Constable or Airport Official, state his correct name and address and the purpose of his being on the Airport.

Penalty for not providing details is a level 3 fine (£1k?), and when police issues a fine, you have to state your name and address anyways, otherwise you get arrested, so it's a lose-lose situation.

Indeed and it will be the same people moaning when BA doesn’t extend status because people haven’t been able,to retain their tiers because they can’t travel to places as no country wants to let us in.

You are aware that most countries will not let us in anyway right now?

Considering the EU/EEA/CH are banning us after Jan 1st, the places we can go within the BA network will be Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Antigua, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Albania, Kenya, South Africa and Turkey. As most of those are tourism reliant or run by leaders who do not support restrictions, I do not see them banning us anytime soon. News today is the US is away to lift the ban on UK entrants next week.

For anyone needing to go to the Netherlands, you need to read this:

Netherlands to ban flights from UK from 6am 20 Dec

As the title infers, the Netherlands have banned flights from the UK from 6am on 20 Dec until at least 1 January whilst they review the implications of the new strain of covid.

I wonder how many countries will follow? Might make property hunting for the entitled difficult over the holiday period.

Does this not just show that these restrictions are too late? Its now spread to the Netherlands, and undoubtedly will spread across the country due to exodus from London this evening. It is too bloody late.

The Dutch ban is not too big a deal for UK based flyers though as we are banned from going there from January 1st anyway. Its likely that people holiday home hunting in Mexico, Maldives, Dominican Republic, Brazil etc will be fine as those places are very relaxed now and want the tourists.

It’s funny that amid all the flurry or Tier 4 posts, not one makes reference to the rationale for the more stringent approach, a variant of the disease that is in widespread circulation in this specific area that is 70% more communicable than an already dangerous disease to the vulnerable.

The inherent selfishness of many is frankly depressing and whilst I understand the valid questions from those seeking to clarify how the emerging rules/guidance apply to their situation, I’m extremely disappointed at the continued tolerance of extended discussion about the likelihood of enforcement of rules.

I’ve been around here long enough to have seen a poster hounded out for nicking a job lot of Kettle chips from the lounge. Talk about misguided priorities.

The sort of person who freaks out about taking crisps from the lounge seriously needs to chill out.

Folks,

This thread is meandering wildly so I need to request that comments are constrained to BA activities and specific BA travel concerns. The COVID and U.K. and Ireland forums are always available for discussion of the wider issues

Well after sleeping on it I have decided to cancel our holiday to UAE on Tuesday.
Yes ive seen their work arounds and that the chances are slim to be asked at the airport but the travel agent has advised that last time a few of his customers did get stopped.

All in all in my eyes its not worth the risk for a few days of R&R and with whats going on in the world and the grand scheme of things this is 1st world problems!
