Latest guidance
From Heathrow Airport Limited, 22:14 GMT 19 Dec
Following UK Govt. advice, if you are in Tier 4, you should not be travelling unless it is legally permitted. If you’re in Tiers 1-3, you can still fly from Heathrow but should carefully consider whether you need to.
In light of the new tier restrictions, passengers should NOT plan unnecessary time at the airport. Please allow 2 hours ahead of departure for short haul flights and 3 hours for long haul flights.

London/SE England in Tier 4 + countries with UK flight ban : impact on BA travel
Hi
Any thoughts as to what will happen with the festive schedules when the 1600 announcement is made about London moving to Tier 4 and stay at home order being made?
I live in Scotland and where we can travel as I am in a low tier however I am transiting LHR next week. I presume they won’t leave the schedules intact if no one in the South East can travel as passenger numbers will fall off the cliff.

We shall find out at 4. I imagine passenger numbers are not exactly high anyway. I can’t imagine it will have as big an impact as the first full lockdown in Mar/Apr.
But it’s all crystal ball stuff surely?!

I'm hoping to travel to be with family for Christmas on Tuesday. Very nervous for 4PM. Ready to change flights if necessary.

My hunch, but it is no more than that, is the restriction will be on travelling to other households in the UK.
The bigger challenge will be if the new variant causes concern at the WHO and borders get closed for anyone coming from the UK. That may take more time to play out.

As far as I remember from earlier threads, no one has ever been prevented from international travel at Heathrow during the last lock down when travel was prohibited....

He said Travel Abroad from Tier 4 must be for essential reasons - ie work, business. Same as in November.
No leisure travel, but business still permitted.

Also no one is allowed to enter a tier 4 area. I’m hoping as a connecting passenger through LHR this is still permissible as you don’t enter landside so transit rules would apply?

We know from previous experience what Boris Johnson says on a podium is usually not quite accurate.

It feels much like November, when travel was only allowed for “Business” and my Other Half operated flights (to France, Canada, India, Pakistan) with 70% load factors of “businesspeople” that included toddlers, blind septuagenarians and mothers with three children.
