This is probably one of the less drastic ways in which BA is leaving money on the table at the moment. Cancelling tens of thousands of flights because the originally-planned schedule was over-optimistic may well be more costly for the airline.

I don’t see this aircraft on the list. Anyone have any insight? Or am I missing this tail number?

Hi,

G-VIIW was refurbished in 2019, and was not originally planned to receive Club Suite as it was based at LGW. There are two other aircraft in this configuration (IV and IY) also currently operating from LHR.

It's not clear whether these are now planned to be converted to the 77M layout with Club Suite and 8F seats, as there are seemingly no plans for them to return to LGW.

See the wiki in this thread a list of all 777s: LGW & LHR selected 777s go 10-abreast (3-4-3) in Y 2018 onwards

I've updated the wiki of this thread to make this clear.

777-200
  • San Francisco (Mixture of CS & CW)
  • Bridgetown
  • Bengaluru
  • Nairobi
  • Accra (Mixture of CS & CW/Also operated by A35K)

777-300
  • Philadelphia (Also operated by CS 777-200)
  • Dallas
  • Denver (Also operated by CS 777-200)
  • Chicago (Also operated by CS 777-200, 787-10 & A35K)
  • Boston (Mixture of CS & CW/Also operated by A380)
  • Dubai (Mixture of CS & CW)
  • Lagos (Also operated by CS 777-200)
  • Johannesburg (Also operated by 787-9/Occasional CS 777-300)
Thanks for this; no Orlando on that list though? Booked a holiday for my wife, two young kids and I for early August back in September last year, when the aircraft was showing a new A350 with CS.

That was subsequently reverted to a CW 777, but I’ve seen recent videos on YouTube of the LHR:MCO route which appear to be to be CS (apparently A350 as far as I can tell). I don’t know how regular that’s been, as our flights are still showing as old CW 777.

Has the MCO route shifted from the ex-Gatwick aircraft, or is it just missing from your list as a less prestige route?

For the past week Orlando has been operated by a CS 777-200, but I think that might change tomorrow. I'm sure BA has their reasons, but some swapping of CS/CW routes taking place at the moment (and likely not for the first or last time)

We booked November 2021 on the A350 too and they switched to the 777 a week later. They ran the old CW 777 until march 2022 and then switched to A350 until April and then switched to the 777 with updated suites. Unfortunately, it appears they are switching to the Gatwick 777’s starting tomorrow (June 1). It really sucks being downgraded so much given the cost of those seats.

So today (6/1) is the old aircraft. Tomorrow they are scheduled to use the 77L (Club Suites) and the following day, the old aircraft again. We go in 29 days and I am hoping they are using the new club suites regularly by then.

Just to illustrate that, not even JFK is guaranteed to have Club Suites: today, G-VIIY is operating BA179. It left just shy of three hours late so, possibly a late aircraft substitution.

I use the flight radar 24 app for most of my information and I’ve been logging into BA and almost booking flexible business class seats to the point where I can pick my seats but before I have to pay. I’ve used the booking to check seating configuration on certain dates.

So they ended up moving another older 777 with the old CW seats for today's flight. It's not looking good for me at the end of the month. I think they are going to stick us with the old seats unless some other aircraft are freed up to do that route.

It’s so unpredictable with even NYC flights occasionally not getting Club Suite. If one really doesn’t want to get the old CW seat at all and if getting an old CW seat swap last minute would cause traumatic experiences, then it’s best to not book BA at all until the rollout is completed or as a minimum where it’s more widespread. This should improve as BA hopefully complete their 777 rollout by early 2023. By then the A350 order should also be nearing completion and hopefully FAA will allow Boeing to resume 787 deliveries which would mean a good handful into the fleet pretty quickly given a few have been fully built and stored for ages. This Club Suite roulette (similar to QR’s QSuite roulette we’ve been seeing) and will likely be uncertain until mid-2023 at least.

As someone new to this game, can you explain why Boeing hasn't been delivering the 787s? Is it the US gov't and 787 issues?

Malfunctioning CS seat - didn't recline

Just flew LHR to JFK. My Club Suite seat was partially malfunctioning. The back recline initially worked and got it to about 45 degrees then it wouldn't move. No problem with the leg rest. FA tried to reset the seat but no joy.

They offered me an alternative seat at the back of the CS cabin but said I'd stick with my seat 5A as I could live without a bed for the day flight. They apologised etc and made a note of the fault and suggested I put in a complaint to BA.com as I might get some avios - ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE I SHOULD SUBMIT MY COMPLAINT ON THE BA Website?
