Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

Why can't they serve an all-in-one hot entree on the "medium" routes with a pudding + bread plate.

They manage it at breakfast??

It was actually pretty tasty, if a bit limited. What it was not, however, was a dinner-time meal, but BA decree no one wants dinner before 5pm and that's a whole different story.

Can see BA fielding some awkward dry cleaning claims for piccalli and Branston pickle stains, though!

The alternative was a wholly derisory 2 and a half fingers of sandwich.

I realise TXL is only 90 mins or so in the air (though frequently more like 120 with LHR holds) and is a shorter former band 3, but even for this length of flight the offering felt derisory. Can totally understand why longer band 3 regulars are so angry at this change.
i agree but nb TXL was a Band 2.

Here's the thing. I have shown this meal to my German wife and my German employee and both thought the whole concept disgusting (it was served on a TXL remember).

I'm pretty sure Lufthansa is not serving weisswurst in curry sauce on its Heathrow flights.

Does anyone eat scotch eggs outside the UK? Or indeed outside a few grotty pubs in the North?

NB - nothing against grotty pubs in the north, I spent my childhood in them, but still ....

This is a good point and I did also think something similar about the new CE catering, namely that BA are almost giving up on catering to Continental Europeans entirely when it comes to the new food offerings. Seems to be severely limiting the potential market only offering e.g. a Full English for breakfast to Germany and a warm sandwich for lunch to France.

I would love if LH served currywurst in their shorthaul business cabin.

I am trying to remember what they do serve.

I remember KLM served a cold Panini on KRK-AMS and served a wrap on AMS - GLA in their Business cabin

There's a Lufthansa breakfast + brunch upthread, here is a middle of the day / evening ambient salad meal example to the UK, in the week before Christmas.

Uh... but what's the problem? It doesn't look bad (aside from the sauce/jam maybe) and I find the egg interesting.

The 'egg' is incased in sausage filling, rolled in egg and breadcrumbs then deep fried. It is nothing short of revolting. My guess, if you grew up with it it would be okay. I say this as someone who's spent half their life in the uk and would not touch it with a barge pole.

I thought I would wait until I experienced myself but this is terrible. My PSA-LHR I had half of a cheese and tomato warmed soggy "ciabatta". I was offered more bread to go with it. The crew later came and gave the other half, noticing her mistake but everyone refused their missing half. I would upload pics but it's been shared many times on here before.

this is not a premium service or a premium cabin. The M&S £4.95 sandwich is much much nicer and less than £5.

Bottom line is that I've now been convinced to go back to exit row on euro traveller. There really is no point in Club Europe anymore

My "cooking" background is Italian. There aren't scotch eggs there, but maybe various other things close to them are the reason I find the recipe interesting.
On the other side, I can't eat Haggish... and neither "trippa"

Smaller trays > can get more in a trolley > need fewer carts > can re-arrange galley and remove either part of the galley and/or a toilet > get more seats in

BA are going to get the A320s up to 180 and the A321 up to 218 seats. Got to cram everything in somewhere (particularly important as everything is return catered now)
