Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833
-------------------------
Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

For such a short flight that offering certainly looks decent...apart from the strange red jaggered shape above the mushrooms? I am definitely in favour of these changes as it's the first time in many many moons that a full English is up for grabs on a NCL service, and being elevated to the dizzy heights of catering status enjoyed by the EDI/GLA/ABZ/INV services. Unlucky MAN/LBA

Thank you! So, there has been an improvement for those of us whose Band 3 flights have become Long Bands it would seem. The same applies for the Domestics and the old Band 1s. I could not care less about scones as I'll go for the Ploughman's. The champagne and wines coming from big bottles will be most welcome.

Clearly, there are winners and losers. I happen to think that there are certainly some borderline routes that should not have been made into medium as I said. Once I have tasted these delights for myself, I will make up my own mind. Telling me about the gastronomic delights of UK, Aegean, or whatever is most elightening but fat lot of use to me flying to Nice non-stop, or ALC for that matter. Who among the legacy competes? No one.

Frankly I thought that they might try and kill CE a la Aer Lingus and this is clearly not the case. Frankly, they play with this product as they should with fire. From its inception, the only difference with ET was what was served on board - other than that, it was economy seating 3x3. At the outset, they did not even have Champagne. After flying a lot of Domestic services on AA, frankly the food and drink was dreadful. 'Bubbles' were three small bottles of Prosecco per cabin tipped into tumblers, the best of the meals was a Cheese Lasagne and the nadir was a Chicken Pot Pie which was no more a pie than a bit of vol-au-vent tipped on a rather tasteless dried out lump of a very dead chicken. Thanks but this sounds better.

When the changes do come in and we know what these mean in fact rather than BA's hype, and speculation here.
PG much as I admire your gallant attempt to insert a finger into the dyke and thereby stem the flow of complaints about BA until we have seen the actual offerings, I'm afraid it's part of an overwhelming tide of cost-cutting.

I could not agree more. What concerns me is the avalanche of complaints about anything before anyone's actually tried it be it BA or my Risotto al Raddichio. It's as though we are saying, BA bad as usual, or Pucci Galore uncombed as usual. I hate hate hate all this cost cutting but the only people who can get this sorted is us complaining or if we really feel that badly, leaving. Writing tedious rants here may make people feel a lot better, but it does not achieve much to redress the problem.

Rant over - is too early for a Bombay & Slim?

So you read and presumably speak French?

Actually that looks quite decent, and for those of us not having to drive and make decisions quite good to accompany some Champagne.

So now I do have a complaint.

Why is it both in my recent experience and in every photo here is BRITISH Airways serving President FRENCH butter? Is there not enough British Butter that costs a good deal less? They might save enough to buy a couple of scones.

For a 45 minute flight can't complain with that.

Completely agree. Looks just right for brunch (and breakfast but no longer an option)

Wish I hadn't seen the newspaper. The song is now stuck in my head.

Thing is - as can be seen by others on here - that is what is being proffered for longer flights. Which is poor.

And some of those flights are to high yield destinations where the competition is either non existent (NCE) or IAG (BCN, MAD) so one can assume BA are going to be raking it in by continuing to screw their customers.

My main issue based on the pictures is the size of the plate on the smaller tray, and why they've priorised a bread plate, which is most unnecessary, particularly if you chose the massive filled loaf. When the tray is this small, you can't afford for it to present empty plates for bread.

I was looking forward to a LHR - CPH flight next weekend to sample the new offering. I enjoyed the hot meal that I got on that route. Now I've read this thread, looks like I'll end up with some Panini with minimal filling or a mini salad.

Great improvement, BA! Well done...... *slow hand clap*

The sandwich looks like a decent hot sandwich, though unfortunately all the ones I have seen so far have been cheese-and-something. It's going to be monotonous if anyone who doesn't (or can't) eat a pile of melted cheese is going to be denied the hot option every time. MInd you, I'm sure the cheese will be very popular with quite a few customers - it's a bit of a Marmite situation.

FAO BA Caterers: it *is* possible to make a hot sandwich without cheese even if the average panini-serving coffee bar makes it seem otherwise. Rotating your menu around the major food intolerances (and dislikes) is part of good menu planning.

Président butter is nicer than almost every English butter; certainly it's about the nicest butter I have ever seen in a catering single-serve pack.
