Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

In the end, either there is a substantial budget increase allocated for these meas or this is literally what will happen. In the end, middle flights lost out in the current model in order to improve the super short (introducing Club on domestics) and the longer flights (full meal service on longer band 3s). I have a couple of lunch and dinner flights right up so I will soon find out how much better the old band 2/short 3s will be.

Where BA continues to fail is the total lack of variety. The same English breakfast every time, the same panini, the same ploughman’s, the same afternoon tea. For Pete’s sake (insert name of choice, m/f), nobody eats the same thing everyday. The other thing they keep missing the boat on is the fact that they have travellers who are biologically on every time zone known to man. Many have not had the time to eat a proper meal due to short connections, little sleep (TATL, I’m looking at you) or running late to catch a plane. Fixing this is much cheaper than getting a new CW seat.

No it is not for real, it's a mock-up.

So maybe best to wait another 12 days, when I'm sure tasting notes and photos from what is served on board will swiftly be posted in this forum.

I am kind of reminded of my photo of the new CCR sofa that I took, which ended up on numerous websites. The opinion that was framed, as you may recall, was that it was clear evidence of the CCR being turned into a shabby retirement home for the tasteless and colour blind. OK, I paraphrase but not by very much. Fortunately that impression didn't stick, and most people were very happy with the CCR makeover.

Totally agree. And even on the entree's etc. that do rotate, their is shocking similarity in the mains over time in both short haul and long haul J. Only F begins to break out (occasionally). The lamb shank I had to JFK a couple weeks ago in F was indeed something I've never had on any airline, markedly different from most airline red meat options, and frankly restaurant-quality delicious.

Indeed. We shall see. I took the photos to be largely an exercise on what sort of thing would be in each container and how they would all fit onto the small tray - that frankly being the messiest aspect of it all that we know of and one which is not going to go away. I seriously doubt that hunk of nondescript dark smothered meat with unfocused, plasticky-glazed peas is going to be on the menu. It means on band 4 you will have starter in small cup, cheese in small cup, pudding in small cup and a main course on a similarly sized dish as today. This might just allow for squeezing onto one of the small trays, just about, making it possible to serve food on a one-pass service like they used to do on old band 2/3 SH. The remarkable thing about the appetizers as they are now is that, saving the beetroot which everyone so loves, most appetizers (prawn(s), salmon) will probably fit into a mini cup. dessert and cheese should be easy if you make or cut the right thing.

Serving on one tray will greatly improve service flow on flights topping out around the two hr mark. The substance of what is in the cups and dishes I would take with a grain of salt.

Agree. I find it frustrating that on many Long flights - especially with a sizable CE cabin - the meal service takes up the entire flight. Most of my intra-Europe travel is business travel and I generally want to work most of the flight.

It looks like they’ve removed the flat plate that the hot dishes currently sit on when served - good idea in my view, it was totally pointless and just took up extra space on the tiny tray. My next ‘band 3’ flight is on the 21st September so I will otherwise reserve judgement until then!

Oh I think many people do.

Although they generally progress to a plate by the age of five or six

The photo showing the sausages and mash looks amazing, I'd happily have that, and any left over!

Everyone to their own I guess. I love a good sausages and mash, but I do not think that it lends itself well to airplane reheating as it's just meant to be straight off the grill, so in this case, I'd be hoping that there is a choice.

The bangers used to be a regular feature as the ‘comfort’ option on the First Bistro Menu, they were quite popular ... and rather tasty.

I never had them in F, but whenever I've had the sausage as part of the English breakfast in CE, I must admit that I have been really underwhelmed. In some ways, I find that the bacon survives the plane treatment better. That's mostly what I was basing my expectation on.
