** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

I contacted UL by mail and inquired about hotel. Then I got the hotel booking added to my booking. My booking was not direct with UL btw.
You can also contact them by phone. Better call the Sri Lankan line then, but still quite a challenge.
I had a situation that one leg of my itinerary was cancelled. They rebooked me on a flight that would depart earlier than my incoming flight would arrive. It took ages before they at least understood the problem...

Wondering if anyone has any advice for an interesting route from the UK to GYD in Baku. I am willing to take a positioning flight to another airport based in Europe, just looking into options as Lufthansa want +£1k for a return trip in Y from Aberdeen!

Many thanks

Forgive my ignorance but please can you elaborate how to get gold status for 2 years if my collection year finishes on 8 June?

You will earn it for the rest of the year and for the year after. Plus you don't lose Gold immediately when the collection year ends

End of June beginning of July, fares are much higher on account of the Eid holiday.
Thanks! Thinks I am getting there by adding +/-2 has gone done a few hundreds euro which is already a good sign. So much to learn@:-)
I am looking at around mid-end of July, Oct and Nov.

not interesting but I'm going to Baku from LGW via Kiev on UIA and it cost me about 300 quid.

QR? I believe QR serves GYD - at least they did in 2012 when I was there.

For this one you can only go LHR-PVG, LHR-PEK, or LHR-HKG before connecting to CTU. Any routing via KUL or SIN would not fall within the fare.
Looking at this fare for a long weekend next year as I'll already be in Italy, only issue I run into is the HKG>CTU>HKG sector, seems like I must stay over night in CTU before flying back, or if I do manage a same day turn around, I must stay in HKG until the next day. (I.e. If I did PSA>LHR>HKG on a Thursday, HKG>CTU>HKG on a Monday, I can only get a CTU>HKG leg on the Tuesday or if I manage to get it to Price as a type of b2b, the HKG>LHR>Italy flights are pushed to Tuesday / Wednesday.

Anybody see / explain the CTU minimum stay requirements?

Thanks, Pilot37

Pilot37, Whilst I cannot help with minimum stay I should also point out you need a visa to get into China which you have to apply for in advance, The Transit Without Visa only works if you are arriving from and departing to a different place so HKG > CTU > HKG doesnt work. If you have a visa ignore this post

The min stay for this fare is:

TRAVEL FROM LAST INTERNATIONAL STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN THE FIRST SUN AFTER DEPARTURE OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SECTOR.
You need a stopover somewhere, so either CTU or HKG, so perhaps that is why it is forcing an overnight in at least one or the other.

Are you trying to just do a trip to CTU, b2b, and straight back? I am not sure the flight times allow for this since I think the earliest you can get to CTU is in the evening and therefore can't get back to HKG in time for either of the two BA flights.

I know that you don't get the higher Avios / TP on an AY flight if you AUP or POUG but if you are on an AY ticket but BA metal would you get the higher Avios / TP ?

Thanks

Booked as BA marketed/AY operated? Theoretically I think so since BA is the awarding airline. However, since you would actually be doing the POUG/AUP though AY it will probably depends on what selling class they put you in to after the upgrade.

Hi, there. I am quite interested with the "exITALY Advanced Purchase Fare INCEU60 to CTU".

ORIGINATING EUROPE -
UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION
LIMITED TO 2 AT EUR 100.00 EACH AND UNLIMITED AT
EUR 200.00 EACH.
A STOPOVER MAY NOT EXCEED 6 MONTHS.
From the quote above, is that means if I choose to stopover Hong Kong and Japan (e.g. MXP-LHR-HKG-TYO/TYO-CTU and CTU-HKG/HKG-LHR-MXP )then should be just +EUR 200? When I just add HKG the price turns out to be just +EUR100, which is fine. However when TYO (e.g. NRT,HND etc) is added to the journey the price gone up to 5 figures! Is there anyway to make this work?

Code:
5 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION FREE
2 FREE IN EUROPE IN EACH DIRECTION
      3 FREE IN JAPAN/KOREA, REP. OF/KOREA, DEM. PEOPLE'S
REP. OF/S.W. PACIFIC/SOUTHEAST ASIA EXCEPT CHINA IN
       EACH DIRECTION.
AND - 1 TRANSFER PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION FREE
1 FREE IN CHINA IN EACH DIRECTION
FARE BREAK AND EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS NOT
           PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT.
Further to my question above, if I cant have stopover in Japan, is there anyway to have stopover in HKG (+EUR200)and layover in Japan (free).

Thanks in advance

Sadly routeing via Japan is not permitted. The Transfers and the Stopovers categories must be read in conjunction with the routeing table.

Code:
**** CONSTRUCTED ROUTING ROM-CTU/BA EF-10AUG16 DIS-INDEF
**ADDON ORG ROM EURG/4 PUBLISHED ROUTING 0003
**PUBLISHED MIL-CTU EURG/4 PUBLISHED ROUTING 0005

/WITHIN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE/
MAP CONSTRUCTED LEFT TO RIGHT AND RIGHT TO LEFT
 1. ROM-LON-HKG-KA/HX/CX/CA-CTU
 2. ROM-LON-SHA/BJS-KA/HU/CZ/CA-CTU
.
You can only fly those two routes specified above, i.e., via HKG (route 1) or via SHA/BJS (route 2).

JAL doesn't offer BA interline carriage at reasonable rates, except on fares between Europe and Japan, so you very rarely see BA itineraries to the far east that permit travel via Japan.
