Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Thanks Foltan, I suppose that's an option.

Hi all,
I'm hoping some FTers with greater expertise could help me with plotting a route LON-SYD next month.
I'm looking into the 'I' abyss ex-anywhere in Europe that works out cheaper than the W alternative direct from London (currently ~£2800).
Not essential, but if I can maximise TPs to get GUF that would be a bonus (745 required).
Dates are fixed: dep Aug 7, ret Aug 15.
I've tried ex-DUB, FRA, OSL, IST, AMS in my feeble attempts at matriculation, and although all come in under £2800, I'd rather avoid AB/AY and the best QF option on Emirates (ex-DUB) is not available on a QF ticket (so no TPs).
Any help much appreciated!

Hi,

I can see ARN-LHR-SYD on BA for £2600 for those dates ( expedia) or £1880 on KLM/China Southern

There are some better fares from HEL ( going via Tokyo or Hong kong on Finnair then JAL or Cathay

Regards

More stops than 2 and it gets really out of hand price-wise so I wouldn't recommend it, at least I couldn't find anything. cheapest 3-stop flight I could find wound up 5700GBP, though you might be able to get it cheaper if you include a shorter europe-flight.

that's just what I could find quickly, good luck tho

Hi Foltan, I can't find this fare. What dates did you use?

Cheers,

560 TP only however, because the DXB - BKK and BKK- SYD legs are on the same flight number.

As noted in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25105491-post11.html , I'm looking to maximize tier points for a trip from PHX to DMM/DXB in September. I'm going to be fairly close to GGL, so I'm thinking about maximizing tier points without it being a painful experience (tickets will be booked in J).

My options appear to roughly be as follows (none of which quality as a tier point run, but some get close):

* PHX-ORD-AMM-DMM//DXB-AMM-ORD-PHX on US/RJ for about $4600 and 480 tier points
* PHX-PHL-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-PHL-PHX on US/QR for $4750 and 860 tier points
* PHX-LHR-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-LHR-PHX on BA/QR for $7800 and 680 tier points (no US domestic F)
* PHX-DFW-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-DFW-PHX on US/QR for $4750 and 560 tier points (more time on QR, minimal domestic F)
* PHX-PHL(or JFK)-LHR-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-LHR-PHL(or JFK)-PHX on US/BA/QR for $5450 and 1100 tier points (longest journey, a lot of shorter longhaul flights rather than including at least one really long flight, and 5-6 hours each way in domestic F)
* PHX-PHL(or JFK)-LHR-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-LHR-PHX on US/BA/QR for $5825 and 900 tier points (eliminates the long domestic F connection at the end)
* PHX-LHR-DOH-DMM//DXB-LHR-PHX on BA/QA for $9525 (or $7500 with an overnight connection at LHR), and 680 tier points

I guess the main source of tier points is unfortunately the more painful but not unbearable domestic first class on US or AA...

Any thoughts or suggestions on alternatives I might not be considering? I've looked at something like (somewhere in the US)-DUB and then DUB-DMM//DXB-DUB on separate tickets, but I'm not seeing anything around these dates to make this a viable option. The dates I'm searching are September 2 for the outbound, and September 13 or 14 for the return.

The deadline to book an exGermany to HKG for ~£1k was last Friday, but it has now been extended to this Friday.

TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED ON/BEFORE 24JUL 15.
Details here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25096134-post3239.html

Stopovers are allowed, and whilst you do have to fly the first leg on/before 16 August you can just do the FRA-LHR leg by then, with the rest sometime later - albeit you would then pay APD for £142.

AA flight numbers give you 210TP for F (flights over 2000miles) whereas BA codeshare flight numbers will book this as J and therefore only 140TP for exactly the same flight.

I have found myself a frustrating 25TP short of Gold after a work trip 2 weeks before my TP year-end (8th August) has been postponed.

Is there any way to search what the cheapest way of getting the required 25TP would be? Preferably needs to be a short (even same-day) trip. Weekends are possible.

Thanks!

PTY (Panama) question.

Might be in this thread somewhere, but how easy are turnarounds?
Looking at a LAS...PTY run whilst in the US for 5 days and one runs arrives at 1:08pm. Departing runs back to LAS are at 2:15pm and 4:15pm ish same day.

I asked about this a few months ago. See from post #2159 onwards:
