There is a human side to this too as SOU and EXE cities provide considerable health care services to the Channel Islands where certain specialist treatments are not available. A Channel Island official said on the news this morning that there are no specialist cancer units on the islands and no Special Care Baby Unit either so the islands relies on the frequent air links.

It’s now been announced that Loganair will pick up a number of flybe’s Scottish routes. There is a story in the Scotsman here
https://www.scotsman.com/news/transp...routes-2072608
and it’s just been referred to in Parliament. Sounds like a done deal, although no details on exactly which routes so far.

I'm glad Cardiff - EDI is on the list

Nonetheless, I'm sure lots of people would be confused whether the "Flybe" flights are really a Flybe flight, and if "ALL" Flybe flights have been cancelled. Hope both airlines survive on their own.

Oh, certainly! It's hardly the best time ever for introducing new routes, what with the reduction of (business) travel. But they should at least have a good idea of demand on these routes in the long run, and if I understand it correctly are mostly going to start operations with smaller aircraft than Flybe was operating, so filling them should be easier.

That's good, higher operating costs per seat one would assume, but a more appropriate size for the current virus-affected conditions. I don't know how much people booked away from Flybe in recent months, but hopefully Loganair will be seen as more desirable. During 2019 I booked away from Flybe all 4 times when they were the most convenient (and still well priced) option, because I worried about reliability and whether they were going to be in operation a couple of months down the line. I'd have to guess there are other similarly risk-averse that will now be happy to book Loganair.

Their website says they're getting some ATR72s in 'over the coming weeks'. It doesn't say how many.

From an SOU perspective it looks like GLA starts end of March, EDI in June and NCL in March also. GLA in particular was normally busy and given the level of business traffic could have been of interest to BA. All these routes are against a train journey lf 6 hours or more each way.
I am surprised they didn't take SOU-MAN as this was one of the heavier used routes, to the point where the early morning flight north was sold out two weeks in advance on several occasions I tried to use it last year. However obviously difficult with fleet being based elsewhere.

They're currently subleasing two from Flybe funnily enough. One has been flying around since March 2nd, the other was flown from EXT to ABZ on February 25th but hasn't flown since. Looking at the list of flights they're planning to operate they'll need more, which is probably why those routes aren't expanding until July and September.

This BBC article suggests "Flybe's collapse could be 'first of many' airlines" - see: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51748139
Assume the mention in paragraph eight to Norway points to Norwegian?
