Btw,the RJ tp run mentioned in the wiki needs an overnight stay as the inbound plane does not return.
So it's more expensive than it looks.

A warning

We had booked a BRU-LHR-MIA-LAS-LAX-SFO-LAX-LAS-MIA-BRU-LHR on AA.com as two bookings. Originally on hold but then purchased next morning. All OK and showing on ba.com.

We were in AMS at the weekend and SO said wouldn't it be funny..... so I checked the booking and they had gone! Followed through AA link and CANCELLED.

Monday early AM SO was instructed to phone AA in London

- AA:You cancelled the booking
- SO: No!
- AA: System cancelled booking
- SO: Why
- AA: No reason I can see
- AA: Flights not available
- SO: I want my bookings back
- AA: No flights - we always show F availability
- SO: I want my bookings back
- AA: we don't keep bookings that are canx
- AA: OK we have flights but you just fly LHR to LAS on AA
- SO: NO!
- AA: OK we have your flights
- SO: Great
- AA: That will be £7.7K each
- SO: No, I want original booking
- AA: No
- SO: I want to complain
- AA: Send mail - this is a booking number!

I then spent 30-40 minutes rechecking everything. Rebooked flights and put on hold. SO then phoned and said book these flights which they did.

Panic over but our view of AA London call centre is

We had also spoken to Amex and AA didnt attempt to take payment

My one experience with them was calling to get BA locator for my booking on AA.com - took over 10 minutes of "you need to call BA", "but how will BA find my booking without a reference they can use" before they finally gave it to me...

What was the status of your itinerary on aa.com after you 'purchased'? They frequently show as 'On Request' which seems to mean no more than you've indicated that you would like to buy them. It can be very frustrating I know although it's unusual for them to just disappear/show as Cancelled.

There's a thread on the AA forum about it all.

If you come across that problem in the future, you should be able to access your itinerary and BA reference on ba.com using the AA Record Locator but make sure you're LOGGED OUT of your BAEC account when you do it.

Forgive my ignorance as I'm new to all this but I've just splashed out on a mileage run on AA SJU-HNL. Should I be able to see my booking through my BAEC account? If so, do I need to call up to get a reference for BA or something? And if not, will the miles and TPs get credited to my BA account? When I booked through aa.com, I put in my BAEC number and that is all I've done.

If there are no BA segments then it may not show in MMB. There would only be a BA PNR reference if there was a BA segment.

You can manage the booking through AA.com, as long as your BAEC number is entered then the miles and TPs should credit automatically.

SJU-HNL is very unlikely to have any BA segments.

bit of help

Hello,
I am new here, So far I've found information on the forum greatly informative.
but i'm wondering if anyone could offer some advice:

I am looking into trying to use an upcoming family event in Las Vegas in May,
as an excuse to upgrade to BA Gold.
I am currently silver, with 325 TP's. only need 75 to retain Silver
what would you guys recommend to be the easiest way to earn enough TP's to be upgraded to Gold. Ideally while i'm in the US. I will have a few days free before the rest of my family arrive, Which will allow me to go city/country hoping.
Ideal dates for this will be between 23rd and 26th May.

any advice as to which airlines, airports runs will get me close enough for gold. Silver will end in Sept.
regards
Ken

You'll need 1,500 TPs for Gold if you're only benefitting from the lower Silver threshold for European members - that's a lot of TPs to make up.

Would try something like an ex-EU booking that goes
XXX-LON/LCY-JFK-LAS - that would get 40+210+210, so 920 return
Positioning flight to Europe gets another 10 or 40 if a decent POUG offer

In the US only American Airlines works, but LAS-SJU return can be had for about £475 - depending on your views you can go
LAS-MIA-SJU for 500 TPs return (more than enough for gold) with the outbound routing above, or
LAS-LAX-MIA-SJU for 620 TPs return
(LAS-DFW-SJU is only 400 return, but may have better timings)

However, timings of LCY-JFK flights not great for ex-EU I think, so could trade off lower TPs on that part of trip for the via LAX run to SJU (eg XXX-LHR-JFK-LAS)- that would be 40+140+210, so 390 outbound and 780 return. Even with a run to SJU via DFW you'd be over 1,500

My flights to LAS are booked already. wish i'd know about this forum before i did the bookings. I was offered Via JFK but opted for more expensive direct to LAS flights. Oouch !
The runs to SJU via Mia looks good. hope i can sort out the timings.
Thank you for your Time and information.

if anyone else has other information it will be appreciated.

Hi , in November I am planning to travel from LAS- LAX- MIA-GCM then returning the same route two days later. The AA website will only let me book this itinerary as two single trips and I wish to seek advice before I complete the purchase. I calculate that this will generate 620 TP's Is this correct ? Are there any pitfalls I need to look out for ? Thanks for your assistance

620 sounds correct, LAS-LAX 60, LAX-MIA 210, MIA-GCM 40.

Not a problem - and belated welcome to FT.

Maybe a one way to HNL in economy (c £300 for 45 TPs), HNL-SJU per sticky above (c £380 for 470 TPs) and then SJU-LAS (c £240 for 310). £920 or so 825 TPs - plus your 280 for LON-LAS if in CW gets you 1105. Pretty close to your target

Got to ask yourself the question though, is it worth it for gold - will you get enough benefit from it to spend the time and money?

May be better off saving the money and using in your next membership year for an ex-EU run to the US. Not sure we'll see the LUX-HNL deal again, but that would only be £700 more, gets you to HNL and renews silver / puts you close to gold
