An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

Looking to try to do LON-BCN. Any idea which flights have the best chance of a POUG? I know it's hard to predict as otherwise everyone would just do that, but just wondering if people had experience. I see BCN is on the list so it is offered sometimes. Looking at dates something like:
18-20 June
25-27 June
2-4 July

Just been offered £368 from WT+ to CW on LHR-JFK next Thursday. Is this a good offer?

Depends what you paid for the WT+ ticket in the first place, IMO.

Personally as a Silver travelling on my own I'd put up with WT+ in the hope of an opup (knowing I find a good WT+ seat perfectly fine for daytime flight if not anyway). Personally I have a good success rate as a solo traveller on those sorts of routes.

In terms of the price I don't think it's brilliant, but everyone places their own value on these things... given I've paid not too much more to go from WT to CW on longer flights (e.g. PHX) it would depend on whether I needed TPs and reason for travelling etc.

Hi all

Just a quick update -some of you have mentioned that POU doesn't seem to be available following making the initial booking. We recently implemented a rule which means that it will not be available until 48 hours after the booking is made so please do check again after this time to check if it's available

Warm regards

Nicci

Interesting - that now closes off the ability to book and then try for a POUG and cancel if you don't get one.

Thanks for letting us know of the change, Nicci.

was offered J-F for £399 yesterday at check-in at BOM for the BA198. I declined coz a) cant afford it b) as i was on a UuA i am pretty sure I wouldnt get the miles and TPs for F

she really tried to sell it to me "this flight even has our brand new First, sir" but I still said no...

alas no Op-Up either (someone else must have either been op-uped or paid the £399) but the flight in CW was excellent, even though i felt the prawn main course tasted & smelled a bit funky...lol

I noticed this a few days ago, recently booked LHR-PRG and no POUG, revisiting the booking 48 hours later made the POUG available and I snapped it up ^

Hi Nicci - any word on when the BA IT will start being able to offer POUGs to those of us on connecting flights from the regions rather than those doing just straight to/from LON flights?

You must be psychic as I was just thinking of starting a thread on that

United certainly offer POUG's on mixed bookings as well with tickets being booked via a TA! (Netflights.com)

Seems us regionalers (is that a word? ) are the poor cousins of BA's IT limitations. Boo.
