An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

Are the prices quoted on here exclusively POUG?
Airport upgrades are usually called AUPs.

I think this thread (although not the sticky post) includes AUP fares, and some straight fare differences as well as POUGs.

I think it's standard as what you would expect on that route.

Another data point for POUG availability being worse than last year - for the first time ever booked a LHR-ZRH today where I wasn't offered POUG immediately after booking despite I9.

Not fussed as I have enough TPs for this membership year and so probably wouldn't have taken it anyway on such a short sector. Still, it seems the game is changing...

This week I was offered LHR-JNB Y to Y+ for £209, or direct Y to J for £749

I declined, and enjoyed a 20% load in the back of the Beast. 3 seats for dining, 4 seats for sleeping

I would have taken the Y+ offer, LHR-JNB is a very long flight..

the usual price different for WT to WT+ is 220pounds for SIN-LHR, how is the POUG offer determined?

Y+ had one empty seat, so a full cabin. I thought a nearly empty Y- was a much better proposition. Just a shame the arm rests don't go all the way up on the A380/B77W. You can still make a flat bed though!

It can appear (subject to availability) on MMB any time from booking to OLCI.

Had an interesting one yesterday on a flight from Europe - €79 for an Amsterdam-Gatwick (morning departure). Expertflyer was showing IC RC D9 C9 J9 - and here was me thinking that POUGs were reliant on I bucket inventory

Anyway, went for it and found it upgraded into U bucket with fare basis UPOUG... first time I'd seen that!

AUP to ALC

Got what I consider to be a great deal to ALC in May from LGW, £220 for 4 nights including 4* hotel full board - but my ET ticket is booked into
S out and O back - no sign of any POUG offers in MMB due to the ticket, but does anyone have any idea of AUP prospects to ALC? And is there a desk for airport upgrades (not familiar with LGW)

A booking with a ground product (hotel or car) will not show POUG's except at OLCI.

You can ask for an AUP at checkin or at the service desk near the F checkin at LGW. The chance really depends on the booked load, if you're flying on a busy flight (start of weekend, long weekend or school holidays) I would think your chances are much lower.
