An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

I keep checking every couple of days and it doesn't shift. Still seem to be plenty of seats in CW too...just seems really bad value as you would end up paying more for the upgrade to sit in CW than had you got a CW ticket to begin with...!
What you might have paid for a CW ticket to begin with is irrelevant in this situation. The question is what do you have to pay for a CW ticket now.

Basically, the cost to upgrade now is the cost of a new CW ticket bought now, less the money you've already paid for the WT+ ticket which you effectively put as a credit towards the new CW ticket you're buying now.

Of course, it's different if you're offered a "special offer" upgrade of the kind talked about in this thread. But clearly, no such special offer is being made to you on your booking.

At Y2 W0 J3 I suspect they were trying to push some upgrades for cash before having to do op ups but seemed like a no brainer rather than try for the upgrade lottery

LHR - HEL £72 ET to CE and same for the return journey, this sounds like a good deal as I bought a hand baggage only fare for £140 return for a TP run for silver. Does anyone think it will get any lower or shall I snap it up before it dissapears? I was hoping for a poug and willing to use the 24 hour cancel period if one didn't appear so perhaps I've answered my own question!

I normally see POUG on this route at £89 each way so I would definitely take this

Anybody ever been able to do this? Upgrade an Avios booking at OLCI?

I've had several RFS bookings offering POUG to ready-meal-class (CE). However, even if you did, you would (should) not get any points.

Thanks. Curious about not getting the points though. That is the only reason I asked since I have an RFS to CDG coming up in a couple of weeks and It would be easier for me to spend the money on that to retain status this year, than have to do a TP run especially!

I assume you did this and got no points yourself?

I've never needed to POUG for TPs, and value CE over ET as less than £10 if already holding status, so doubt I'd ever pay it. If you upgrade an avios flight for cash, you shouldn't get any TPs/avios, but BA's IT might give you some by mistake

Thanks angatol for the info (and the link). It will have to be a quick TP run for me this year!
