As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

Status Match &/or Complimentary Status

let us all know how code d005927 works out - I thought someone mentioned a few pages ago that they had no problem when they used this code or was I imagining that?

Thanks for the fast reply! I have made 2 bookings using this code for Naples(Italy) in May as I am not sure yet what size of car I require - is it ok to have two open bookings or should I cancel one before arrival at the airport? What would be great is to pay for the lower priced one only to find they have to upgrade me to a bigger car anyway! It could happen...you never know I have not had to leave any credit card number or deposit on these bookings but assume they are "confirmed".

Has anyone else made two booking for the same rental period? I thought I read a post here where someone said they did but I can't find it again!

At least a few people have told me they've used it in Europe without any problems. I'll definitely report back but my trip is also in late May so you might rent before I do...I have also booked 2 reservations but under 2 different names so I don't anticipate any problems -- are you traveling alone? Have a great trip.

You want a bigger car in Italy? Make sure to get extra CDW .

The code worked for my res in Australia.

Thanks for your replys guys!

I am not travelling alone but I will be the only driver so I'm not sure if booking in another name would be a good idea in my case...my rental will be 17th-30th May.

Good comment about wanting a bigger car lol! I have been looking at some of the excesses these companies charge and most are huge, 1000 euros not uncommon though to be fair the last time I rented a car in Scotland (from Thrifty) I think the excess was in the region of £600.

I think the avis excess is "only" £220 which seems fair enough but I am not 100% certain of this yet - perhaps an email enquiry would be in order soon.

Still considering whether I should prepay for the cheaper car(@ avis.co.uk) and then still have the option of having the larger car when I get there. The group E car is normally £406 reduced to £250 (was £259 a few days ago!) and the group G car was £515 reduced to £315. Big difference as you can see.

Found this link from the travelsupermarket site - they want £309 for an Alfa 147 group D car which is pretty expensive.

YOUR RENTAL FROM AVIS INCLUDES

* Sales tax as of Booking Date: 24-Mar-2006. Airport Surcharge for rentals commencing at an airport location.
* Unlimited mileage and fire insurance. Liability Insurance for injuries or damages to persons or things outside the vehicle.
* Rental includes Collision Damage coverage and Theft Protection for the vehicle. Rental limits potential vehicle damage or loss liability to an excess of approx. GBP 220

Hey everyone,

I had autoeurope.com match my AVIS rate -- I also prepaid and so it eliminated any issue with the AWD code which doesn't appear anywhere on my payment voucher. You can cancel anytime with Autoeurope without penalty but the prepayment is reassuring me that I'll get my car at this rate. Autoeurope actually contracts avis and hertz so it's the same locations and car as on my AVIS reservation.

Just get a quote from Autoeurope (one of the most popular car rental agencies in Europe) and then there's a "best rate" link. The form asks you for info from your AVIS reservation but it doesn't ask about any code you might have used to get the rate (obviously don't mention it). Autoeurope sent me a revised quote that beat the Avis rate (AWD D005927) by $5.00 and then asks for prepayment info (remember to use the CC that will give you CDW coverage). One caveat -- autoeurope charges for an additional driver so this is an additional surcharge you'll have to pay when you pick up.

I have used D005927 (and 5297) in recent history (i.e., last six months) in both USA and Europe with no questions asked. As always, YMMV.

Read back through this thread and you'll see that the code derives from some sports association and many people have used it successfully.

can you recall which page of the thread as I have read most of this thread and have not seen any ref to a sports assoc.

Why is the search tool here so lousy as well - it is really difficult to match phrases etc...

I believe D005297 is the sports one. D005927 I think was discovered accidentally when I mis-typed the former code trying to reserve my dad a car. I have no idea where it comes from, but the one or two times I used it no ID was required.

Posts 346, 389... research takes time.
Agreed! on the worthless search tool!

As one poster said, if questioned just tell the Avis agent that an airline employee or some travel agent told you to use the number.

Since I know its got something to do with sports I'll just say I got it from ski area I ski patrol at.
