Does anyone know if Lifemiles will waive cancellation fees for an award ticket due to COVID-19 concerns?
Unfortunately, barring an outright flight cancellation, Lifemiles will not waive cancel fees.
Just pay the $200 as a "self caution fee". (nobody is actually preventing you the passenger from flying as you booked).
In the future, it would be wise to invest in travel insurance.
=====
Transferring Amex MR points will extend expiration of LM. Post #906 confirms this. Expiration date updates overnight, so wait 24 hours after the transferred miles have posted to LM.
LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart
Cash & Miles redemptions: the price per mile purchased during award booking varies significantly depending on how many miles are purchased. The "sweet spots" are between 38% and 58% of the total mileage required, where miles are purchased for 1.5 cents. See here for some examples.
Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An example is travel on Avianca from LAX to SJU (via SAL/BOG). For additional information see the WIKI of this thread.

Hello everybody,
I'm looking at buying and redeeming LM due to the promotion. I'm trying to look up first class on Asiana and despite the space being open, LM has some difficulties (yeah, from what I read it is not unusual). Well, first class seems to be open but the price listed is the same as for business. Although, when I proceed futher something like that comes up. Is it going to be a business class award or first class? How can I interpret it?
// Would screenshot methody work in such routing?

Today I bought 55,000 miles (+71,500 bonus b/c blogger promotion) with an Ink Plus - transaction was smooth and easy - booked my tix with no issues and near instant ticketing.
Tonight, when I tried it again, this time with a Citi AA card, I got the following message:
"We already have your information, we will process your request and will contact you with the result of your transaction."
Called Citi - they said no attempted transaction from Avianca. Called Avianca - they said "we have confirmed there is no transaction." They advised to try again online while they were on the phone - received the same error message. Then they suggested I try buying them over the phone, so I complied and gave them the CC number over the phone (through the payment processing recording thing) and they said the miles should be in the account within 2 hours, and if the transaction is "denied" then they won't be there.
Ummm....what should my expectations be here?
EDIT: There's potentially another complication. Since the CC was in my wife's name (I don't have the same CC in my name) they ran the transaction through her LM account, *which wasn't registered for the promo* - if a lesser number of miles eventually show up, what do I do? I was never warned that any number less than the original attempted amount (55,000 + 71,500). Will they credit the difference?

LM Purchase and use in Europe
Been interested in trying this but maybe not dive in too deep. Only got a day I think to do it this time. Couple questions:
Is this purchase considered airfare purchase by AMEX plat, hence 5x points?
I will be traveling in Europe and will need to book some flights from Italy, maybe Switzerland to London. What are the options like for intra Europe travel? Is it an option that even makes sense to purchase miles for? I know the sweet spots are first class or maybe business on certain carriers longhaul, I've not any thing planned beyond next summer which is already booked.

So, how good is this bonus miles promotion for someone based in Tokyo like me?
As far as I can see, I can only redeem award flights from Japan to other Asian regions and Australia.
Biz class round trip on ANA to Sydney for 80.000 avianca miles looks good using this promotion (around 135.000Yen) but how about availability?
