It gave us only about 89$ USD worth of Rupiah's in one shot. I then tried to use it twice..and the machine rejected us...(probably thinking it was a fraud).
Some people seemed to have luck withdrawing twice on the same calendar date.
That location also has a money changer (of course, you will pay more if you change money there).
Avoid the ATM's on the street along the Seminyak / Kuta stretch....

Every ATM in Indonesia that I've ever used has a 30 bill limit that they will dispense. Some banks have smaller withdrawal limits, too.
So, generally you can withdraw 1.5 million if it dispenses 50k notes, or if 100k notes, 3 million. This is usually noted on the ATM.
Citibank, HSBC and other western affiliated banks usually allow 3 million. Most Indonesian banks don't charge ATM fees, but ANZ does.

I got back from another Bali trip yesterday.
After arrival we were able to book an Uber via the airport's free WiFi. The app indicates that pick-up is on departures. The driver called me via WhatsApp right away and confirmed. On the way to departures, a few taxi drivers followed us for a while until I told them we are going upstairs for a connecting flight. It worked smoothly and we paid $6 (IDR79k) for the 1hr trip to Uluwatu (we tipped generously).
Friends had a different experienced. They met their Uber driver on arrivals level and upon loading the bags, a mob of taxi drivers approached them and the Uber left without them. The taxi drivers continued to follow them angrily until they almost got into a fight. Eventually they took another Uber on departures.
Also in Uluwatu we saw some banners prohibiting Uber, Grab and Go-Jek from picking up passengers.

Often they will ask to meet nearby, so as not to attract attention. It's a shame to have to do this, but the taxi drivers aren't too happy, and you don't want to be responsible for an Uber driver getting injured.
For the guy posting an Uber sign up promo code, I wouldn't bet that it will work in Indonesia. I have a bunch of free rides in Indonesia, but they don't work in the US.
For anyone wanting a new signup for Indonesia specifically, which gives you a free upto 75k IDR ride as well as the same to the referrer, you can use my wife's code:

I've used Uber in Bali without any problem. There are plenty of cars around the airport and large resort areas. You can take Uber to Ubud but you won't find one in Ubud to go the reverse direction. You'll need international roaming active on your phone to get a signal and place you correctly on the Uber map for pickup and contact with the driver.

In Sanur, there were signs all over the place indicating services such as grabtaxi, Uber and Lyft weren't allowed to pick up people. Did not use Uber myself but checked availability a couple of times. It was almost always available in Sanur, Jimbaran, Benoa and I think even Ubud.

Anyone using Uber in Ubud make sure you dont tell restaurants and hotels that you are waiting for uber except at SThala (SPG) the restaurants deny you allowing them to park to collect you so you must say u ahve a hotel car colecting you. I ahd a nasty experience at Mozaic recently where the security guard was extremely verbal with me.
would be great if uber actually tell people about this.

They can not legally prohibit you from getting an Uber or Grab on a public street. We try to remain low key, and address the driver by his/her first name.
My wife had no problem taking an Uber yesterday from our resort in Nusa Dua.

The taxi drivers are quite aggressive in Bali, and have been known to attack drivers if they think they are Uber drivers. Having an Indonesian phone number helps a lot, as I have had requests to meet across the street at a mini market.

I use Uber all the time in Bali but indeed, they will always ask to meet somewhere quiet and act as if you are friends with them. Really different compared to Jakarta where Uber/Grabcar/Go-car is everywhere and very normal. On top of that, many taxi drivers in Bali can be quite rude and if you are a 'bule' they will often offer you an unmetered price. Always ask to use 'argo'(meter) unless you have a clear idea about the prices.

A few tips after 10 days in Bali this month.
Don't pay the Benoa toll. It's always added to your bill, no matter what the driver tells you. Same for the airport parking fee. These are not big amounts, but annoying.
Some hotels will not let Uber drivers onto their properties. Most Uber drivers are smart enough to just say they're your driver. Not all of them, unfortunately.
Grab sometimes works, but we waited at the Bali Hilton Resort for 15 minutes past pickup time, and the map just showed him getting further away. Just cancel if it's not coming on time.
On our trip to the airport, we get a new driver, with his trunk full of big boombox type speakers. Had to shoehorn the luggage into the second row of seats.

Am currently in Bali. Have used uber several times.
1. Denpasar airport to Kuta. Booked my uber using free airport wifi. My pickup location was set as international arrivals or similar - I guessed the uber would come to the signposted pickup area so walked around the area looking for the licence plate. Was stalked by several taxi drivers / touts along the way, in particular one persistent one. I told all the touts I had a driver sent by a local Indonesian friend picking me up. At last I spotted the licence plate and got in #likeaboss i.e. Tried to look cool as if I knew the driver 🙂. The persistent tout followed me to the door and closely scrutinised the driver's face and licence plate. cost from airport to Kuta was under 25k IDR.
Tip: Tell the touts your driver is picking you up.
Using uber at the airport can be difficult and stressful as there are so many cars. This is whilst trying to look like you're not using uber and avoiding the touts. If you don't mind spending a bit more using your hotel pick up service or the official taxi booth, may be worth it.
2. Kuta beach to Uluwatu temple and back to Kuta. Total cost on uber was under US$20. I paid the driver IDR 50k (US$5) per hour of waiting time in cash. He picked me up in Kuta, didn't end the trip at Uluwatu and kept the uber meter going until I got back to Kuta. No hassles at Uluwatu since the touts didn't know I was in an uber, they all probably thought he was a regular driver.
Tip: was extremely worthwhile tipping the driver to wait at locations where there is no convenient transport back.
3. Uber from Kuta to local shopping disctrict. The final bill exceeded the uber quote. Driver was 5 star and spoke reasonable English so I asked him if he would drive me to ubud + day tour. He said IDR 150k one-way to ubud (cash, off uber) several times. I repeated this price back to him several times slowly and clearly for confirmation. I booked the trip with him and organised a time for pick up in the morning. Later he texted me saying he had made a mistake with the price, should be IDR 350k. Fair enough, but I cancelled nonetheless.
Tip: helps the drivers to find you amongst the hoards of tourists if you text them telling them what you look like and exactly where you are "I have long blonde hair and am in a green shirt and yellow pants in front of the blue frog cafe".
Uber quote Kuta to ubud was 100-150k IDR, I have heard of drivers trying to extort more once you get in the car.
Uber has been great on this trip. Most of the Bali taxi drivers / touts / mafia are very anti-uber / grabcar. I would not wish for the uber drivers to be beaten up by the mafia, so am very careful to maintain secrecy whilst using uber in Bali.
Tip: book uber discreetly away from prying eyes. Once you receive the text, memorise the driver's name and licence plate number. DON'T walk around holding up the uber app.
Some drivers fudge their licence plate numbers e.g. App will say ABCD1234 but the actual plate is ABDC1243. I can understand, given the current anti-uber sentiment.
Most uber drivers here speak limited English and are not familiar with tours. They are drivers, not tour guides. Almost all will try to negotiate with you to book them for a day of driving (off-uber).
You have to pay all tolls and parking, on top of uber. Average is IDR 2-5k a pop.
Please feel free to ask me anything.
