Uber prices in Kuala Lumpur has surged the past month or so. I mean double, sometimes triple the amount of what I use to pay. Uber is losing customers and Grab is gaining them.

You can't use Bluebird. Only the taxi mafia cabs are allowed to pick up at the airport, for 3-4x the metered rate.

You could walk outside the airport and grab one, but that's a problem if you have bags. You might be able to get one on the departure level that is dropping someone off, but it's not the easiest thing to do.

You may be able to meet an Uber by the parking area. If you have 3+ people, and/or lots of luggage a Goldenbird livery service is a decent deal. They sometimes offer a discount for prebookings online. Otherwise in the $16-18 range.

Thanks for your suggestion!
I used Goldenbird before, always excellent, but they never offer a discount (16US$ to Nusa Dua).
Seems to be the easiest choice.

I always use Uber from DPS airport but remember that it's a bit shady, they will probably ask you to pick you up at the departures entrance or something.

I used Uber several times in Bali last month without significant issues. The one issue I had involved the app correctly identifying my present location. When ordering an Uber from the Sheraton Kuta, the app insisted I was at the mall next door. Each time I had to fix the departure location. When I was at a bar, the app insisted I was a block away, which I didn't realize. I watched the car drive by me on the app and on the street. The driver called me, I waved, he saw me and picked me up.

If I want to use Uber or Grab to visit Uluwatu, will I be able to get another Uber/Grab at Uluwatu to take me to Single Fin or Ayana Resort or Jimbaran?
I guess my question is, when I'm touring around is it easy to get an Uber/Grab, or should I just pay for a guy to wait for us everywhere we want to go? I don't want a tour, I just want somebody there to take me to the places I want to go.

The waiting time is fairly cheap ($3 an hour, if I recall correctly). If in a more remote location, I'd certainly have them wait.

Be careful with keys, glasses, water bottles and plastic bags at Uluwatu. The monkeys are pretty naughty there.

If you want to use Uber/Grab at DPS at minimum you need to walk from international to domestic terminal and then call Uber from departures at that location. Uber/Grab drivers WON'T come at international arrivals.

You need to have certain flexibility - expect that you won't be successful with your first or second request and you might have to wait 15-45 min until pickup and might have to travel further to the pickup point like at parking lot.

Those are current realities and nothing you can do to change them - venting at English speaking forums and writing angry messages to Uber won't help.

If you are not willing to wait/gamble and/or you are traveling to Ubud it at similar or longer distances AND you do not want to enrich airport taxi mafia/cartel, the best and only approach is to get a driver which will pick you up at arrivals and take you to the destination according to negotiated price.

There are number of recommendations at TripAdvisor forums with such drivers/rate. Current running rate from DPS to Ubud is 300K IDR and 250K - return. Rates to other places are obviously different.

I also have such driver which I have been using last three years. If you need contact- send me a message. I am not getting anything from it, just helping a guy to provide living to his family.

I did that several times in Indonesia.the waiting price is indeed reasonable but I would suggest giving a tip, and buy food/drinks for the driver. Uber drivers are also happy to "nego" in Bali. I'm not driving a motorcycle in Indonesia anymore after breaking my shoulder in an accident

That sounds like a good option. I don't mind paying a little extra to have a driver sitting there waiting for us while we have drinks, etc. I think I'll just call an Uber, then ask the guy if he wants to work all night for us.

What is the going rate from DPS to Nusa Dua from the cartel cabbies?

Just trying to get an idea of what I'll have to pay to get to the hotel.
Thank you.

I recall it's 180-250k. ($14-19) These vehicles are usually in moderate to poor shape. I find the Blue Bird taxis are in much better shape, but you can't book them from the airport (Other than their Golden Bird private vehicles).

You can often prebook Golden Bird vehicles for a discount. 200-250k IDR. These are the larger Toyota Innova vehicles, which are generally pretty nice.

Get uber, grab and go jek app. Order all 3, if paying cash, and cancelling, you won't get charged if cash. Go jek if you top up is 30% cheaper and overall the best value time/distance/$ as you skip traffic vs go car. You will get lots of cancellations but most of the time it will work out. I had some instances where cars are not available, simply none. In none of all 3 apps. Ubud taxi's phone was disconnected. You have to be prepared also to play the game of waiting, canceling, walking to a point the driver gives you, etc...
