Thanks Eastbay1K and KurtD. I have done dummy bookings for February and March and those are possible. I will keep an eye open for when May 2013 fares are loaded.

The prices for February and March are showing as between $390 and $800 each way per passenger. Is this the kind of price to expect as they appear a bit steep for ferry crossing?

Gosh NO.. way less. I just did BsAs to Colonia then Bus to MVD for about $50USD Round Trip on Seacat. Online fare with no changes permitted or value is lost. You check in at the Buquebus Terminal and on the outbound I was on a Buguebus vessel. Any way fares are way way less.. take a look:

Prices are quoted in ARS..

The ferry has always been relatively expensive, and with 30% inflation for 5 years those sound about right. There are flights between Buenos Aires and Montevideo, you can check prices with Aerolineas Argentina and Pluna, not sure which other airlines cover that short route right now.

Kurt, I have to disagree. First of all, Pluna is no longer in business. A cab from MVD to Pocitios is about $40 USD and the Ferry is about the same price. The Ferry is very inexpensive in my opinion. With todays exchange rate BsAs to MVD is about $75.00 per person round trip http://seacatcolonia.com/tarifas.php
Thanks and Safe Travels.

I am confused by what appears on the websites. It gives the values in $ (not stated if they are American dollars or otherwise). At the bottom, it says that all the quotes are in Argentinian pesos. If they are in pesos the it is not bad but I need to know for sure.

I have wikipediad it and I am happy to note that Argentinian peso is abbreviated as $

Feel free to disagree, but I think 75-90 dollars per person is expensive, especially since most of the trip is in a bus. Busquebus fares are much higher, the boat direct to Montevideo is about 250 USD round-trip, which is about triple the per-mile rate for ferries in the Seattle area where we are moving. Its far more than the cost of the per mile rate for ferries I've taken in other parts of Latin America. One example, the Puntarenas ferries to the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica are $1.70 per person 1-way, those trips are 12 to 15 miles.

Another note about Busquebus, don't bother paying extra for a higher class of service, the snacks and drinks they offer are miserable, you're better off bringing your own water or soft drinks.

Only one way to travel from BA to Monte and that's by air. I wouldn't consider going by ferry at all.

Why not?

It's not as if it's a scenic boat journey and there's always the chance that it might be choppy.
Flying time is half an hour and both airports are easy to get to/from. I suppose if you like boats then the ferry might be pleasant on a calm sunny day but apart from that I can't see any advantage on taking the ferry to Montevideo.
I'm not that keen on boats it has to be said so my opinion might be biased. :)

so now is it true that i have to pay a reciprocity fee to get into argentina of $160 us per person? only going to be there 10 days and most likely will not return for a while.....
it began this december 2012 - that cuts a chunk out of our spending since i'm traveling with my husband and two kids. really that costly?

This fee has been around for a long time... it is nothing new.

My receipt is dated 4 Jan 10, which is shortly after it started. It expires 2 Jan 20, which means that K has ripped me off by a day.

Hi georgiastrick, Welcome to Flyertalk. Yes, it has been in effect for several years now. I paid mine in February 2010.. I think it may have started in late 2009. Safe Travels

EZE to Colonia ferry transport

I would like to get from EZE airport to Colonia by ferry on Wed 1/9. How do you get from EZE to the ferry terminus?

Also, the Buquebus ferries to Colonia seem to depart only at 12:45 and 1900 with nothing in between. Would it be possible to catch the 1245 ferry if flight arrives at EZE at 1050?
